The Castle, Sandown

This pub seems one of the most thriving pubs I've visited on the island. The beer was well kept and had a mix of locals and tourists to keep it busy. The quiz night was busy and they are open later than other places. Definitely a unique pub and some good beers on offer.

The Bugle Inn Hotel, Botley

Good food and service - the Lebanese menu makes a nice change. Good selection of food and drink; can get quite busy so booking is a good idea if at the weekend or a large party.

The Jolly Sailor, Burseldon

Whilst the location is hard to beat, it is inevitable that this place gets very busy and the service was bad the last time we went. It's best to go at quiet times as it is much more enjoyable than spending 20+ minutes waiting to be served (and even longer for the food). The food was fine but definitely over-priced fro what it was.

So for me it's usually a one-drink stop-off to wathc the river then move on.

The Salterton Arms, Budleigh Salterton

Agree with other comments - not much atmosphere but open later than the other few pubs here so worth a look in. Didn't try the food but there appeared a good selection.

The Feathers, Budleigh Salterton

Nice pub in the centre of the town. Food was good and reasonably priced. Seemed quite traditional and good service.

The Fountain Inn, Hedge End

This pub has been closed for a long time - will probably be flats soon

The Rose and Crown, Hay on Wye

Liked this pub, didn't see any food but very relaxing and nice atmosphere.

Old Black Lion, Hay on Wye

A nice restaurant, but upmarket and not 'pub-grub'. They offer a restaurant menu and a bar menu. We opted for the latter but it was quite-pricey and felt like a restaurant. The food was quite rich, which will be pleasing to a lot of people but I found the sauce a bit heavy. It's worth coming here for a special meal.

The Kilvert's Hotel, Hay on Wye

The service was quite slow and then a lot of what was on the menu wasn't available. A few good ales. Could do with more staff! The saving grace was the burger: home made and very nice.

The Three Tuns, Hay on Wye

Food here was excellent, has a 'gastro pub' style. Nice decor inside (with some of the original timbers inside). Good service and IMO one of the best eating places in Hay-on-Wye. Prices reasonable and good choice ales/whiskies etc.

The Wheatsheaf, Hay on Wye

This place appeals to the 18/20's age bracket. Ok but music quite loud. Didn't seem to have any ales when I popped in, but maybe they have been delivered since. Pub is quite spacious, but not the place if you want quiet drink.

Blue Boar, Hay On Wye

Didn't try the food but pub was ok, fairly decent selection and comfortable setting.

The Bold Forester, Sarisbury Green

I agree with the comments on poor service and price. I was invited to a group booking, at 7.30pm. The starter eventually turned up at 9.10pm!! There was only two staff on to serve, and they were delivering main courses before some people got their starters. We had to pre-order our meals weeks in advance, but on the night was told they'd run out of my choice and I had to change. Not impressed. The food was nice but service so abysmal I won't be returning.
