The Radcliffe Arms, Hitchin

First visit since lockdown;- expected to have to pay by card, BUT, was greeted by "if you just want a beer you have to order online", I replied "I don't have a smartphone", followed by "sorry can't serve you!".
Wasn't aware it was a legal requirement to have a smartphone!!! Never liked the pub much anyway, just a handy stop back to the station!.

29 Aug 2020 19:40

The Albert Inn, Hitchin

First visit for many years. Seem to be coping OK with covid restrictions,(have to pay by card). Beer OK.

29 Aug 2020 19:36

The Standard Bearer, Stevenage

Not sure if this place is going to reopen after coronavirus lockdown? Signs on doors today (06/08/2020) saying "this Wetherspoons is closed". No great loss frankly, was handy if shopping in town centre but basically as far as clientele went it was "Chav Central", and the majority of teh staff appeared to be semi comatose at most times (unless serving their mates).

6 Aug 2020 17:39

The Chequers, Stevenage

Pleased to say pub is now back on form. Amy, used to be barmaid her, has now taken over management and, despite the problems of opening due to C/virus, has now brought back the beer quality and range that we used to enjoy.

31 Jul 2020 19:19

The Mill, Cambridge

Haven't been here for a few years and was pleasantly surprised. Excellent selection of ales in good condition. Only downside was large group of hooray henrys with ttheir ladies who decided that they would block the way through to the toilets with their chairs and tables.

31 Jan 2020 21:11

The Kings Head, Enfield

First visit to this pub in twenty years! Furniture appears to have changed but otherwise no change. Large numbr of TV screens showing Assoiation Football, and a lacklustre choice of two ales.

2 Jan 2020 15:55

The Imperial, Soho

Just off Leicester Square so seems to concentrate on food and tourists. Beer was ok but unexceptional.

9 Nov 2019 10:22

The Bunch Of Grapes, Knightsbridge

Pleasant pub midwaybetween V&A and Harrods. Beer perfectly drinkable but not spectacular. Think it is probably the only real pub in the area.

9 Nov 2019 10:19

The Chequers, Stevenage

Oh dear! Change in management, beer choice and quality have fallen, plus no food. No longer first port of call in the Old Town I fear.

3 Oct 2019 17:44

The Lamb, Bloomsbury

First visit here for 4 years. Still a very atmospheric , and busy, old pub.
Beer not ridiculously expensive considering the location, but I feel the beer was better in the days when all you could buy there was "proper" Young's Bitter and Special.

10 May 2019 10:56

Royal Oak, St Ives

Pub appears to be on the main street of town but feels more like a back street locals pub. However the Newby Wyke was in tip-top condition.

2 Mar 2019 19:31

Oliver Cromwell, St Ives

slightly back street pub, seems to be very food orientated Saturday afternoon. Beer in good condition though and reasonably priced.

2 Mar 2019 19:29

Goose, Wood Green

First visit to this pub in over 20 years. It has not improved! The interior has been repainted etc, but the ales were mediocre at best. Place was rammed full of lower classes watching televised sport. Toilets smelt as if a very sick animal had died in there several weeks before A dire place!

31 Dec 2018 12:02

The Oxford Arms, Camden

Despite being in the centre of the Camden Market area, this appears to be a genuine pub. Nice pint of Robinson's Trooper and rugby on TV.

2 Dec 2018 09:26

The Hawley Arms, Camden

Visited for a short time Saturday afternoon. Pleasantly surprised by the quality and price of the beer, (St Austell Tribute), but did not enjoy being filmed by Italian tourists as if I were an exhibit in a museum.

2 Dec 2018 09:24

Bumble Inn, Peterborough

Very small, friendly, micropub just off the main shopping area. Only had time for one pint but could happily have stayed all afternoon!

13 Oct 2018 09:25

The Mossy Well, Muswell Hill

Very pleasant 'spoons. Unfortunately not many ales on at noon Thursday but the Daleside Monkey Wrench, 5.3%, was excellent.

5 Oct 2018 09:46

Kipps Alehouse, Folkestone

Smallish street corner pub in the "Creative corner" (i.e. Hippy Tat) area of Folkestone. Good range of ales in nice condition.

23 Sep 2018 09:16

The Firkin Alehouse, Folkestone

Small friendly micropub with great range of ales and beers. Worth visiting Folkestone for this place!

23 Sep 2018 09:14

The Chambers, Folkestone

Small cellar bar with good range of ales. Possibly slightly food orientated at lunchtime. A pleasant venue for a good pint.

23 Sep 2018 09:13

The Stamford Post, Stamford

Typical 'spoons. Fair range of ales. Best place to get reasonably priced meal in Stamford!

16 Sep 2018 09:40

Kings Head, Stamford

Very small pub, just off the main shopping area. Good range of beers in good conditition, but, on Saturday afternoon appears to be catering for posh families eating with children rather than the lone drinker. May be ok in the evenings though.

16 Sep 2018 09:38

The Jolly Brewer, Stamford

Excellent back street local with great range of beers in good condition. Would have liked more dark beers but you can't have everything!

16 Sep 2018 09:36

The George, Stamford

Amazing building, bit like stepping back into the 1950's with hotel guests sipping G & T's. Beer was good thouhgh and not overly expensive for a posh hotel.

16 Sep 2018 09:34

The Bath Arms, Brighton

Pub in the middle of the Lanes area. Not as expensive as I had feared. Sheperd Neame Masterbrew in good nick.

8 Sep 2018 10:27

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

Small backstreet pub with good range of beersin good condition. Worth the walk to find it.

8 Sep 2018 10:25

The St Radegund, Cambridge

First visit since the refurb. It is now a small welcoming pub, rather than a private bar for it's regulars. Very nice pint of Magie Best.

6 May 2018 09:41

The Castle Inn, Cambridge

Pleasant Adnams pub, just across the river from the tourist mayhem of the city centre. Nice pint of Adnams Fat Sprat.

6 May 2018 09:37

The Doric Arch, Euston

Excellent pub, never had a bad pint here. Can get very busy when sports events on TV. Discount for CAMRA members.

10 Mar 2018 10:14

Wetherspoons, Victoria Station

Considering where it is, this is a very pleasant place to have a pint or two whilst waiting for a train .

10 Mar 2018 10:10

The George, Croydon

Very busy 'spoons. Beer in good condition and cheap.

10 Mar 2018 10:07

The Dog and Bull, Croydon

Small friendly locals pub with good beer. Did't try any of the food as looks too expensive for a chap going on a solo pub crawl!

10 Mar 2018 10:06

The Hamilton Hall, Liverpool Street

Beer very good, (and wonderful interior) but atmosphere spoiled by large groups of fat elderly Essex "geezers" who insist on shouting at each other even when standing next toeach other.

15 Jul 2017 22:32

The Slug and Lettuce, Fulham

Now Broadway Bar & Grill. Went in Tuesday, only one real ale on, seemed to have photocopied pump clip! so went for a Guinness which was OK. However, then went to gents toilets and found floor flooded<(clearly for some time), smell of sewerage. Left ASAP. A dreadful place.

12 May 2017 11:02

The Mad Bishop and Bear, Paddington

Probably the best station pub in London at the moment. Good range of Fullers beers with a few guests. Probably not the place to spend an evening, but a nice place to call into for a pint en route to elsewhere.

10 May 2017 10:23

The White Horse, Parsons Green

Pleasant pub with an excellent range of ales at reasonable prices. Only drawback as referred to before is the loud braying clientele but they are quite easy to ignore if you wish.

10 May 2017 10:21

The Iron Duke, Mayfair

Pleasant pub hidden away in a back street off Bond Street.
Fullers ESB in very good condition, and not over expensive cosidering the location.

10 May 2017 10:18

The Globe, Baker Street

Not very inspiring Greene King pub. Pint of London Glory was just about drinkable. Suspect they make most of their money from tourists going to Madame Tussauds.

10 May 2017 10:16

The Angel in the Fields, Bond Street

Fabulous late Victorian gothic interior, with magnificent stained glass windows. Only drawback is that all the beers are keg.

10 May 2017 10:14

The Hercules Pillars, Holborn

Pleasant enough pub always very crowded. Good place to play "Spot the member of a secret society"! Beer quality goodbut not exceptional.

29 Apr 2017 10:46

The Sanctuary House, Westminster

Plush Fullers' house. Beer excellent. Packed with mixture of tourists and local office workers.

29 Apr 2017 10:43

The Rose and Crown, Belgravia

Excellent proper pub. Good quality beer, cheap food and a friendly welcome from staff and other customers, not what you would expect to find in this area!
Worth making a detour from Kings Road to find this.

29 Apr 2017 10:42

The Ship Tavern, Holborn

Fantastic looking Victorian? pub with great range of beers. However, I assume that most of their clientele are in the legal profession and can put the bar bill on their expense accounts. £5 for a pint of Old Peculier is an absolute rip-off! One to avoid unless someone else is paying I feel.

29 Apr 2017 10:38

The Falcon Tavern, Huntingdon

Absolutely splendid! Best pub by far in Huntingdon. Vast range of real ales at incredibly low prices. Friendly locals and staff. A must if visiting this town.

2 Apr 2017 09:57

The Duncombe Arms, Hertford

Pleasant if unexceptional Greene King pub. OK if passing, but probably not worth making a special trip to.

16 Mar 2017 19:41

Marquis of Lorne, Stevenage

Pleasant if unremarkable GK pub. Beer OK but always have the impression that it is a local pub for locals only.

11 Feb 2017 18:02

The Castle, Cambridge

Old pub just outside th main tourist area. Fair selection of Adnams Ales in good condition. Worth the walk from the town centre.

11 Feb 2017 18:00

Pint Shop, Cambridge

Expected to hate this place (hipster beards, skinny jeans, Guardian readers), but was pleasantly surprised;- good selection of beers at reasonable prices for city centre.

11 Feb 2017 17:58

Garden City Brewery, Letchworth Garden City

Interestng little brewpub. Atmosphere is closer to a bar than a proper pub, but their own beers are well worth trying.

4 Feb 2017 20:55

The George, Enfield

Dire place, cheap and tacky impersonation of a 'spoons attracting the dregs of Enfield society. Real ale tasted stale, clearly a place to drink cheap lager whilst visiting the bookies!.

1 Jan 2017 12:08

The Orange Tree, Winchmore Hill

First visit in over 30 years! Was pleasantly surprised by this very friendly back street local. Beer was in excellent condition (Jennings Red Breast) and was reliably informed that the food is very goodtoo.

1 Jan 2017 12:05

The Flying Scotsman, Caledonian Road

First visit in it's reincarnation as a proper pub! Very impressed with the decor and the beer range. Worth a quick detour on the way back to the station.

9 Dec 2016 10:56

St Stephens Tavern, Westminster

Very popular and crowded pub. Luckily most of the tourists seem to come and go in packs every 20 minutes or so, therefore not too hard to find a seat. Badger Beers in good condition and very reasonably priced for the area.

9 Dec 2016 10:54

The Coach and Horses, Mayfair

Curious Victorian half timbered pub in the middle of Mayfair. Very crowded yesterday afternoon, but was served quickly and the ales were in good condition, and very reasonably priced for the area. A welcome retreat from being taken window shopping along Bond Street.

9 Dec 2016 10:51

Ye Old Mitre, Holborn

Excellent little pub behind Hatton Garden. Impressive range of real ales, and ,PROPER pub food;- toasted sandwiches, pork pies, scotch eggs, no sign of pulled pork sun dried tomatoes or olives. Can get very crowded but the atmosphere always remains civilised.

9 Dec 2016 10:48

The Cittie of Yorke, Holborn

Worth visiting if only to see the "Victorian Baronial" rear room. Sam Smith's OBB in good condition.

9 Dec 2016 10:43

The Craft Beer Co, City of London

Went in just after midday yesterday so quite empty. Range of real ales was good, and not too expensive, considering the area. Bar food seemed way overpriced, but then I'm not a trendy hipster so what do I know about these things? Worth visiting for the beers but best grab a pasty in the nearby Greggs beforehand!

9 Dec 2016 10:41

The Charles Lamb, Angel, Islington

Excellent little pub, worth the walk from the mayhem of Upper Street Islington. Good range of beers in good condition.

4 Dec 2016 09:59

Woodins Shades, Liverpool Street

Busy pub close to Liverpool Street station. Beer in good condition, as you would expect from Nicholson's, but atmosphere not very appealing somehow.

4 Dec 2016 09:57

The Monument, Monument

Beer OK, atmosphere spoiled by large stag party with raucous singing etc who bar staff did noting to control

4 Dec 2016 09:55

Brewhouse and Kitchen, Islington

Went in expecting a normal trendy brewpubbut was pleasantly surprised. The Brewhouse Vlad 5% was excellent and a reasonable price for the area.

4 Dec 2016 09:52

The Tobie Norris, Stamford

Atmospheric old building but very expensive. £4.00 for Gales Firecracker

25 Nov 2016 21:26

The Green Man, Stamford

Totally deserted on a Friday lunchtime, however atmosphere seemed ok. Nice selection of beers. Brewsters Decadence very pleasant.

25 Nov 2016 21:24

The Coronation Hall, Surbiton

Above average 'spoons. Interesting range of local ales and pleasant atmosphere.

13 Nov 2016 18:19

The Falcon, Clapham Junction

Visited Saturday afternoon, pub absolutely rammed for the rugby but very good service from the bar staff and a great range of ales. Worth crossing the Thames for!

13 Nov 2016 18:17

Green Dragon, Winchmore Hill

Pub now closed for several years, frontage being kept but rest being redeveloped into luxury flats and small Waitrose.

10 Nov 2016 15:46

The Eagle, Cambridge

Interesting historic pub, but, it's clearly on the "must see" list of tourists so no chance of a nice peaceful pint!

6 Nov 2016 08:58

The Prince Albert, Brighton

Splendidly eccentric interior and a good range of interesting beers.

28 Oct 2016 10:16

The Sussex, Brighton

Pleasant, if a little bland, town centre pub. Beer good but seems aimed at a dining clientele.

28 Oct 2016 10:14

The Evening Star, Brighton

Fantastic choice of real ales and craft beers at reasonable (for London or Brighton) prices. Only downside was the appalling stench in the gents' toilets!

28 Oct 2016 10:11

The Cricketers, Brighton

Nice interesting old pub just off The Lanes. Beer range limited but in good condition.

28 Oct 2016 10:10

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

Excellent little pub, mainly Fullers beers. Great atmosphere.

28 Oct 2016 10:08

The Betjeman Arms, St Pancras International Station

Nice pint of Hammerton N7, however the overall feel is of an overpriced food led operation. OK for a swift pint en route to elsewhere, but wouldn't want to stay longer.

24 Sep 2016 20:38

The Sun, Richmond

Nice back street pub, heavily into rugby. Good beer range and the ESB was excellent.

24 Sep 2016 20:34

Orange Tree, Richmond

Typical upmarket Youngs pub. Beers good , but food far too expensive for any non-local to cosider trying. (Ate in McD about 1/4mile away!!)

24 Sep 2016 20:33

The Railway, Kew Gardens

Now called "Tap on the Line". Fullers house, but surprisingly cheap for the area. Beer in good condition but probably not worth making a special trip to visit,

24 Sep 2016 20:30

The Baker Arms, Child Okeford

Visited this pub Friday evening prior to a weekend reenactment at nearby Hambledon Hill. Very friendly welcoming pub. Food looked good. Beer in great condition. An excellent pub!

19 Sep 2016 10:37

The Shakespeare's Head, Holborn

Very large 'spoons. Full of touristseating and groups from offices. Not very welcoming to a lone drinker seeking a quiet pint. However, the Moorhouse's Pendle Witches Brew was in excellent condition which made up a bit for having to stand by the wall next to the entrance to the toilets!

10 Sep 2016 10:02

The Freemasons Arms, Covent Garden

Friday evening so the pub was packed, a mixture of suits, Masons, and a party of bemused Japanese tourists who were eating a full British 3 course meal. The Bishop's Finger was excellent, and remarkably good value for the area. Always worth a visit if in the Covent Garden region.

10 Sep 2016 09:55

The Prospect of Whitby, Wapping

Visited early lunchtime, pub almost totally empty. Interesting range of beers, had the ELB Nightwatchman which was in good condition. I imagine this place would get totally rammed on a sunny afternoon. Worth visiting.

10 Sep 2016 09:49

The Captain Kidd, Wapping

Visited just after opening time yesterday lunchtime. Normal Sam Smiths beer range, OBB was good. Great views of the river.

10 Sep 2016 09:47

Mabel's Tavern, Euston

Full rangeof Shepherd Neame beers in good condition, but pub caters mainly for the sport watchers amongst us, large screens abound which detracts somewhat from the pub atmosphere.

9 Jul 2016 21:36

The Assembly House, Kentish Town

Beer OK but nothing special. Pub more or less empty mid Saturday afternoon. No atmosphere at all.

9 Jul 2016 21:32

The Bull and Gate, Kentish Town

First visit today since the refurb/Youngs takeover. What used to be a splendid rel Irish pub, with a great live music venue attached has now been turned into a soulless gastro pub catering for the "Henry and Jemima" clientele who are willing to pay over £4.50 for a pint and over £12 for a burger (well it is artisan bread with hand crafted lentils). A great loss for the area.

9 Jul 2016 21:15

The Red Lion, St James

Beautiful Victorian gem, hidden away behind Picadilly. Very busy but friendly, Fullers ESB in excellent condition. Highly reccommended.

12 Jun 2016 09:22

The Blue Posts, St James's

Dreadful pub. £5.50 for a pint of Sambrooks Junction. Half the tables had "reserved" signs on them. Clearly get most of their customers from the Ritz Hotel round the corner who don't care what they have to pay.

12 Jun 2016 09:20

The Bree Louise, Euston

As usual the beer choice and quality were excellent. My only problem with the pub is the table layout, which is great for large groups but leaves very few spaces for a lone drinker to visit and sit down without intruding on a group.

15 May 2016 09:48

The Chandos, Trafalgar Square

This pub is right in the centre of tourist London, so incredibly busy. Sam Smith's OBB in good condition, but too crowded to be a place for a relaxing pint!

15 May 2016 09:45

The Old Ship, Richmond

Pleasant real pub in Richmond town centre. Young's Special on top form. Well worth visiting.

15 May 2016 09:43

The Winning Post, Whitton

Went to anevent in the function room yesteray and was pleasantly surprised by the beer quality here. Greene King IPA in excellent condition. However, unless I was going to an event here, I wouldn't bother with visiting this pub.

15 May 2016 09:40

The Free Press, Cambridge

Arrived yesterday lunchtime, seemed to be populated by loud rich student types. Beer was good but at London prices.

26 Feb 2016 10:11

The Old Pack Horse, Chiswick

Beer was in good condition (ESB) but felt that the whole plac was geared more towards trendy young people meeting rathe than being a basic pub.

9 Jan 2016 21:33

The Crown and Anchor, Chiswick

Fantastic exterior tiles (? 1930's), unfortunately interior has been stripped out to give a minimalist gastro-pub appearance. Saturday liunchtime had a perfectly OK pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord (shame there was no Youngs available in what appears to still be a Youngs house). Nothing much to reccomend it but generally OK

9 Jan 2016 21:31

The Watermans Arms, Richmond

Excellent small pub, good quality beers, worth finding if in the area.

9 Jan 2016 21:25

The Prince's Head, Richmond

Nice pub, bit pricey but reasonable for the area. Excellent pint of ESB

9 Jan 2016 21:23

The Rising Sun, Tottenham Court Road

Nice range of beers, not too expensive for the area, worth a visit.

14 Nov 2015 21:43

The Red Lion, Westminster

The beer here is always in excellent condition, however, due to its' location the prices are truly horrendous, not somewhere I would stay for more than one pint.

14 Nov 2015 21:41

The Hole In The Wall, Waterloo

Visited this pub for first time for several years. Beer good and reasonable price but service in small bar very slow, and a general feel of dinginess about the whole place.

14 Nov 2015 21:38

The Prince of Wales, Wimbledon

Nice pub with good beer but horribly expensive

14 Nov 2015 21:35

The Surbiton Flyer, Surbiton

Excellent pint of Fullers Red Fox, but, £4.25 is ludicrously expensive for a pub on outer fringes of Greater London.

14 Nov 2015 21:33

The Chequers, Stevenage

Just started their first beer festival last night. excellent range of interesting beers in A1 condition.

28 Aug 2015 17:39

The Viaduct Tavern, St Pauls

Disappointing place. Beer expensive and staff (particularly the lady with arm tattoo referred to below) managed to be excessively polite in a manner which was somewhat dismissive. Plenty of btter pubs in the area.,

8 Aug 2015 10:28

The Bishop's Finger, Barbican

Haven't been here for over ten years. Went in yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to find that it hasn't been converted into a ghastly gastro-pub. Spitfire was in tip-top condition. Will be going there again next time I'm in the area.

8 Aug 2015 10:25

The Rising Sun, Smithfield

Splendidly preserved pub close to Smithfield Market. Sam Smiths' so no beer choice but, very good value for money.

8 Aug 2015 10:22

Ye Olde Watling, Mansion House

Excellent little pub hidden away in a back street. Great pint of Mad Squirrel Milk Stout.

8 Aug 2015 10:18

Liberty Belle, Ely

Very unusual pub, order at the bar and beer brought to your table. Very interesting range of unusual ales. Not sure how the ordering system would cope on a busy night though.

12 Jul 2015 09:16

The Fountain, Ely

Very nice corner pub away from the main tourist area of Ely. Good range of Adnams' ales. Check on opening times before making a special trip.

12 Jul 2015 09:14

The Cutter Inn, Ely

Pleasant riverside pub, good pint of Wherry. However, very crowded and a bit more expensive due to its' riverside situation.

12 Jul 2015 09:12

The New Inn, Biggleswade

Best pub I found in Biggleswade. Appears to be run by same management team as THe Chequers in Stevenage. Saturday afternoon, absolutely rammed with rugby fans, but a friendly happy atmosphere throughout Had two excellent pints of Old Speckled Hen.
Definitely worth a visit.

14 Feb 2015 17:46

The Rose, Biggleswade

Strange pub. Walked in and felt it was the pub from "Straw Dogs". HOWEVER;- the real ale (London Pride or Old Growler ) was in 1st class condition and the locacls and staff turned out to be far friendlier than their appearance might suggest. Worth a visit if in the town.

14 Feb 2015 17:43

Golden Pheasant, Biggleswade

Excellent choice of beers, only tried the Brains Dark which was superb. Only downside as noted earlier is the fact that the locals hog the bar space and seem unwilling to let anyone else near the bar.

14 Feb 2015 17:40

The Parcel Yard, Kings Cross

Always a good range of beers in this interesting building conversion. unfortunately, the prices mean it's not somewhere to spend all evening.

7 Feb 2015 21:41

Euston Tap, Euston

Probably the strangest pub building in London. Always a good range of real ales (and keg "craft beers" for those of that persuasion). Pleasant friendly staff.

7 Feb 2015 21:38

The Cockpit, Blackfriars

Stumbled across this little gem by accident on Saturday afternoon. A proper pub,no food, no tea or coffee, just customers happily drinking (and watching sport on TV if desired). Well worth finding.

7 Feb 2015 21:36

The Spanish Galleon, Greenwich

Saturday afternoon, seemed tourist and eating oriented. However, Bishop's Finger in very good condition and reasonable prices for the area.

7 Feb 2015 21:33

King's Arms, Greenwich

Saturday afternoon, clearly catering for tourists and families who wish to eat rather than drinkers. However beer in good condition.

7 Feb 2015 21:31

The Gate Clock, Greenwich

Pleasant enough 'spoons. probably cheapest beer in Greenwich so worth bearing in mind if doing a crawl of the area.

7 Feb 2015 21:30

The Coach, Greenwich

Adequate pub in tourist trap. Beers OK but staff seemed too busy being "hip and trendy" to give any impression of caring abut the customers.

7 Feb 2015 21:28

Charters Bar, Peterborough

Very unusual venue for a pub! Good range of Oakham Ales, plus a few guests.

25 Jan 2015 09:33

The Drapers Arms, Peterborough

Very busy Wetherspoon's. Fair range of ales, seemed to be in good condition. Probably nearest pub to the railway station.

25 Jan 2015 09:32

College Arms, Peterborough

Large Wetherspoon's at the more downmarket end of the main shopping street in the city. Good ale selection but nothing special to reccommend it.

25 Jan 2015 09:30

The Brewery Tap, Peterborough

Huge pub, (believe it is more of a music venue in evenings). Good choce of ales in good condition.

25 Jan 2015 09:29

The Ostrich Inn, Peterborough

Splendid back street local. Ales in tip-top condition. Easily the best pub in Peterborough city centre.

25 Jan 2015 09:28

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

This Wetherspoons is always very crowded with large groups of bewildered tourists who do not know how to order food and drinks in a British pub, (NO, there is no waiter service!!). However it always seems to have a good range of ales in good condition. Expensive for a 'spoons but cheap for the area.

17 Jan 2015 10:01

The Buckingham Arms, Westminster

Think I have visited this pub at least once a year since about 1976. Ales always in good condition. Clientele mixture of office workers, police and a few stray tourists.

17 Jan 2015 09:57

Wetherspoons, Victoria Station

Very busy station bar, but the beer is always of good quality here. Probably not an ideal place to spend an evening but worth visiting if passing through the station.

17 Jan 2015 09:53

The Colonnade, Letchworth

Now called The Colonnade. Bit of a strange pub, the Doom Bar and Greene King IPA were both in excellent condition, but the overall feel of the pub is of general dingyness and grubbiness.

15 Jan 2015 18:11

Marquis of Lorne, Stevenage

Very pleasant old town pub. GK Fireside in very good condition. Well worth a visit if in Stevenage Old Town.

10 Jan 2015 17:38

The Watermans Arms, Richmond

Excellent back street pub. Great value for Richmond area. Only downside, large family groups (with children) eating and taking up space for drinkers.

4 Jan 2015 09:21

The Pickerel Inn, Cambridge

Not many ales on yesterday, suppose that is to be expected in the Xmas/New Year gap. What was on was good. Just outside the main tourist area so not as crowded as some of the other city centre pubs.

31 Dec 2014 11:37

The Regal, Cambridge

Massive 'spoons. However they normally have a good range of ales available, and the staff seem to know what they are doing as well. Always worth a visit if in Cambridge.

31 Dec 2014 11:35

The Mitre, Cambridge

Usual Nicholson's high standards. Good range of beers but clearly a food based operation, not much space for customers who are not in a group and eating.

31 Dec 2014 11:33

The Hopbine, Cambridge

Good range of beers, CAMRA members' discount. Handy if forced to visit the Grafton Centre.

31 Dec 2014 11:30

The Barrowboy and Banker, London Bridge

Nice pub, excellent beer only spoiled by the TV screens showing football and the eye-watering prices;- £4.40 for a pint of ESB!!!

The York, Islington

Pleasant pub, beer good value for the area.

The Steam Passage, Islington

In common with previous reviews, the beer was fine (Sharp's Red Ale), but the experience was spoiled by the four or five TVs all showing football at maximum volume.

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

Visited this famous pub for the first time yesterday and frankly was somewhat underwhelmed. Nice range of ales, the Firebrand Stout was particularly nice. However, on a Saturday afternoon it elt more like a private locals' club rather than a pub. Wouldn't goout of my way to visit it again.

The Alfred Herring, Palmers Green

This branch of Wetherspoons is always crowded. Friendly efficient staff and a good range of ales always on. The only decent pub in Palmers Green.

The Maypole, Cambridge

Great pub with an amazing range of ales. A bit on the expensive side but well worth the extra price.

23 Nov 2014 09:28

Elm Tree, Cambridge

Excellent little pub with a great beer range. Called in yesterday for a pre Xmas shopping beer, the pub was empty but a great welcome from the staff.

23 Nov 2014 09:24

The Champion of the Thames, Cambridge

Excellent little pub, always worth visiting when in Cambridge.

23 Nov 2014 09:23

The Old Bell, Fleet Street

Small historic building with a good range of well kept ales. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

22 Nov 2014 09:36

The Museum Tavern, Bloomsbury

During the day concentrates on food for the tourists visiting the British Museum, but a nice range of ales in good condition, with the bonus of a 10%discount for CAMRAmembers.

22 Nov 2014 09:33

The Angel, Angel, Islington

Called in last night, good range of beers in good condition. A welcome haven of reasonably priced beers in the otherwise expensive mess that is Islington.

12 Nov 2014 09:38

The Euston Flyer, Euston

Called in for a swift pint of ESB yesterday evening. The beer was in excellent conditio, but it should have been at an eye-watering £4.15 per pint, (ridiculously expensive even for a central London pub).

12 Nov 2014 09:35

The Penderel's Oak, Holborn

Saturday evening, good range of ales, not too many suits or lost tourists. Overall a good'un.

21 Oct 2014 17:36

Three Magnets, Letchworth

Ales generally good, and well looked after. Shame about the average clientele though, single figure IQ plus man made fibre clothing, and lack of teeth.

21 Oct 2014 17:32

The Arena Tavern, Letchworth

Ales generally OK but nothing special. Always feel it's a "local bar for local people".

21 Oct 2014 17:30

The Argyll Arms, Oxford Circus

Nice beer, great interior, horrendous prices!

19 Oct 2014 09:38

The Coach and Horses, Covent Garden

Called in yesterday mid afternoon, astounded to find a proper friendly local pub in the midst of all the tourist traps of the area. Highly recommended.

19 Oct 2014 09:36

The Half Moon, Hitchin

Great beer festival over the weekend, excellent mixture of beer styles. Not sure why people have a problem with the cat, makes it more of a traditional pub, not an antiseptic gastropub horror!

19 Oct 2014 09:34

The Standing Order, Stevenage

Visited this 'spoons yesterday afternoon. Interesting selection of high gravity ales on. This is 10 times better than the 'spoons in the new town centre.

27 Sep 2014 17:10

The Standard Bearer, Stevenage

What is wrong with the management at this Wetherspoons? 3pm on a Saturday afternoon and only two staff serving behind the bar, (one of whom was a trainee). Staff very slow, and rubbish at knowing which customers have been waiting longest, shouting "OK who's next?" doesn't really work. Shame as the American IPAs were in good condition. One to avoid at busy times of day I feel!

27 Sep 2014 17:07

The Chequers, Stevenage

Although the beer quality is generally good to very good this pub is let down by the staff at times. This afternoon the barmaid spent most of her time sitting at a table with her friends, only going back behind the bar when a customer needed serving. Most unprofessional, surely she could have been tidying, cleaning glasses etc when not actually serving?
