The Gatekeeper, Cardiff

Camra has recognised the quality of ale by granting the Gatekeeper a listing in Good Beer Giude 2010.

14 Jan 2010 20:22

The Goscombe, Canton

Visited to watch the Lions match.Busy but service quite efficient.Three cask ales available.Brains Bitter at 1.65 was good.

1 Jul 2009 20:01

The Shakespeare's Head, Holborn

Visited during my annual business trip to London.I can never understand the negatie comments.True.it'a bit shabby, but so are many London pubs.On Friday teatime there were 7 staff falling over themselves to serve and any queues were quickly dealt with. The real ale festival was on with a choice of 8 beers. The Cairngorm Howler was excellent. I heartily recommend this place. The staff were all smiles and service was slick.

4 May 2009 20:13

The Moon Under Water, Leicester Square

Visited recently during the festival.Good selection and prompt service.

4 May 2009 20:05

Trebanog Arms, Trebanog

Has reopened but have not been in yet.

5 Mar 2009 20:56

26 Feb 2009 20:30

John Fielding, Cwmbran

Very busy but pleasant pub, anoasis form the shops.Good selection of ales, perhaps a bit cold, but this does not affect the flavour.Staff very friendly and efficient.

Tom Taya Lewis, Newport

Staff problems nave been addressed sincemy last visit.Service was efficient and staff were well aware whose turn it was,Good selection of guest ales as well as the 99p staple.

16 Feb 2009 21:11

Tom Toya Lewis, Newport

Staffing problems have been addressed since my last visit. The staff do not suffer from tunnel vision and try to serve everyone in turn. The ales were in good condition with several guests as well as the 99p staple.

16 Feb 2009 21:01

Picture House, Ebbw Vale

One of the scarier JDWS.ON entering,I found a number of strange people staring at me all the way to the bar.Still, the decor is ok if a bit dark and the ale is of acceptable quality.

16 Feb 2009 20:57

Y Dic Penderyn, Merthyr Tydfil

Ah,Merthyr, one of the poorest areas in the UK.However, the 99p offer does not exist here. You pay 1.49 for a very iffy pint of GK IPA.The real ale is often of dubious quality. To cap it all, some of the old regulars were criticising Cardiff pubs for putting 50p on the price of a pint on big match days!

16 Feb 2009 20:52

Bears Head, Penarth

I(n spite of the 99p pint, still serves a good range of guests.Food too,is very acceptable.

12 Feb 2009 20:33

1 Jan 2009 20:30

The Queens Hotel, Swansea

1 Jan 2009 20:25

Areal hole.full of benefit claimers from the North of England. To be avoided.

The Cayley Arms, Rhos On Sea

Used to be a brilliant pub, good Bass and good steaks. Now a total disaster.

16 Dec 2008 20:24

The Snowdon, Llandudno

A shame that a dump like this is one of the few places in North Wales that serves Bass.

16 Dec 2008 20:20

The Kings Arms, Llandudno

A scruffy pub with reasonable but expensive beer.

16 Dec 2008 20:17

The Cottage Loaf, Llandudno

Used to enjoy the atmosphere here on my annual visit, but last time the place was nearly empty.I cant see how it can survive on these high prices, especially with a Wetherspoons next door.A real shame.

16 Dec 2008 20:16

Ye Olde Murenger House, Newport

Excellent pub and not too dear.Good pint of Sam Smiths.A welcome change from the huge pubs in the vicinity.

12 Dec 2008 20:44

Tom Taya Lewis, Newport

Still seem to be problems with service.manager please note .Called in today for a festival pint at 1.30 and was told to stand at the end of a long queue.,which did not appear to be moving.was not prepared to wait ages for just one drink at this time of day,so headed back to Cardiff wher JDW outlets are properly staffed.

3 Nov 2008 20:52

Trebanog Arms, Trebanog

Sadly,another victim of Mr Darling.

27 Oct 2008 21:36

Yr Ieuan Ap Iago, Aberdare

Perhaps the lager is flat, but the cask ales are always in good condition, with a fine selection of guests.Recommended.At least it's still open a rare sight in the town centre.

27 Oct 2008 21:34

The Great Western, Cardiff

27 Oct 2008 21:00

3 Sep 2008 20:39

Vivian, Sketty

was one of the best pubs in swansea with a good mixed clientele.then Brains refurbed painted the outside a horrible colour and drove most of the regulars out. This seems to be policy in many of their tarted up pubs. What has happened to community spirit? Not recommended, come back Mr Snowball!
