A reasonable walk from the Altstadt but worth the effort as this is the best beer hall in Cologne. Popular with local people.

The Craven Arms, Birmingham

I went to this pub with a group of enthusiastic beer drinkers. Everyone agreed that the Craven Arms is one of the best in Birmingham. I particularly liked the card by each pump describing each of the beers.

The Silkstone Inn, Barnsley

If you are visiting Barnsley and are in town early it is worth finding this spoons. It was busy early but I much preferred it to the Lloyds that is near by. It had a decent choice of ales.

Bier Museum, Cologne

I had fond memories of this pub from The World Cup in 2006. It was selling beer in pint glasses and from all parts of Germany; a rare thing in Cologne. I visited recently and while it still sells a range of beer, the bar is aimed at a young crowd. Very loud music and only a couple of beers sold in pint glasses. Shame from my point of view.
