The Hope and Anchor, Camden

Averagely nice pub, but occasional thuggery ruins the experience.

The Red Lion, Enfield

Lovely pub since being taken over by new management. Good beer and excellent staff mean it is one of the few nice pubs in a pretty rough area.

Great curry house opposite too.

The Picture Palace, Ponders End

Beer is okay. Pretty much what you expect from a Wetherspoons.

The Goat, Ponders End

Nice pub. Occasional bands too.

The Angel, Angel, Islington

Bit weird, but enjoyable and a good meeting place.

The Hope and Anchor, Islington

I thought it was a good pub and a great venue until I realised that the "security" staff turn a blind eye to violence. By all means go for the atmoshere and music, but watch out for the loonies.

Sun, Southgate

Perhaps if you want cheap snacks and luminous chemically conceived shots then you might like it. But for me it made a poor fist of being a pub.

The New Crown, Southgate

I frequent this place regularly. Good beer (but more off pints than you might get elsewhere) and cheap. Food is okay. Well enough run, nothing especially to commend or condemn it, apart from the cheap beer and convenience of the location as a meeting place.

And the beer is cheap. Did I mention that?

Ye Olde Cherry Tree, Southgate

As an occasional visitor I have always found it a pleasant place.

The Wishing Well, Southgate

Sloppily run, weird atmosphere. It is strange to walk into a pub and get a dirty look off the bar staff, who then ignored me. They seemed a bit, er, worse for wear and keener on talking to each other than serving customers. I eventually got served by the landlord just as I was about to leave. It might just have been a bad day, but the pub was hardly sparkling on my other couple of visits either. The clinical Wetherspoons pub down the road (New Crown) beats it hands down for warmth and welcome. Which just about says it all.

The Merryhills, Oakwood

Alright if you are not bothered about atmosphere or beer quality, I suppose. Overrun with chavvy kids and served by semi-witless bar staff, with one or two exceptions. Does have the benefit of a beer garden our front so you can enjoy the traffic and fumes in the summer.

I've never been frisked, but then I tend to only go there for the footie.

The Cock and Dragon, Cockfosters

Nice pub - good beers, very good bar snacks, decent Thai restaurant out the back and a very relaxing beer garden for those hazy summer evenings.

The Oakwood Tavern, Oakwood

Nice pub, top landlord, friendly staff and locals. Occasional top jazz band, if you are lucky. The Merryhills has been annexed by kids - it might recover if they start putting bands on again. But until then, it is The Oakwood Tavern for atmos and beer or The New Crown for beer.
