The Plough, Cobham

April 2014. Plough shut for 6 mos we hear - structural changes needed.
Also ownership changes needed. Current owners - Scot+Newcastle/ Heinekin ? ? - have permitted a series of incompetent and incapable tenants and managements over about 10 years.
An opportunity to put it right next time.
Refurb the pub, toilets car park, kitchen and possibly accommodation. Maintain the cellar.
Then put in management who have the money, wit and all other necessary resources to run it properly - so many customers driven away by the Freehold owners installing hopeless organisation time after time.

Hopefully English Heritage and the council won't permit it it be knocked down for housing . . . Await it's re- opening with baited breath

The Jamaica Wine House, Bank

Service is cerainly more consistent since S+N took over so adverse comments before April 2009 are not as big an issue. Current Manageress v. much on the ball and keeeps an eye open to good effect.
Pretty consistent beer now . .
Good pub -

The Two Brewers, Marlow

Fell upon ( not literally ) pub off a boat - it;s the nearest one to the Lock. Visited the pub on Tue 14th July 2009. New landlord had only been in charge for 2 weeks. Service fine - friendly helpful can do staff. 3 or local and natioanl bittters all in good nick. Food a bit priecy - but I guess that's Marlow. It's very food driven - with several dining areas - but still room for drinking. New man very enthusiastic and is only intent on making things evolve better - no substantive changes planned as none needed. Very Good.
Cheers.

North Star, Worthing

Firtst impression not good. All the menus were covered in food. Ordered a steak. Rare. Came up well done. Ordered another steak.Rare. Came up medium. All other food could have come from Brakes Brothers value section. Unimpressive. Maybe they should employ some cleaners, and also train the staff in the kitchen. Beer was OK - and that was the only good thing I could say.

The White Bear, Hounslow

Prices seem a bit more expensive than when I was last using the Pub regularly. Whilst I never played I see the darts playing regulars we used to talk to in the 60s ( probably in 1966 and I was under-age and on my most recent visit )have moved on - I guess 'coz the dartboard's gone. Otherwise refreshingly unchanged - albeit a bit noisier.

The White Hart, Waterloo

Monday evening 29th Oct, Arrived at White Hart with a dozen mates. All ex ( or current ) Rugby players. All quite large. All quite thirsty. 6.30 PM Greene King IPA ran out. 7.00 PM Fullers London Pride ran out. Apart from a cuppla the younger guys on various Euro Fizz taps rest of us kept on the Young's Ordinary - no problems - fine. Kept us going until 10.30 or so.
Two guys behind bar working their socks off. Cheerful friendly attentive and alert and observant.
Good Lads. Even if they had been trained to change barrels I'm not sure if they would have had time. Pub very busy all night - not bad for a Monday. Service still pretty quick. No complaints. Cheers to the Bar lads ( and lass )
Earlier derogatory obsos posted about the pub must have been heeded by management, unless they were posted by sacked incompetent disgruntled staff.

The Lord Raglan, St Pauls

Am amazed at the positive opinions earlier. Have tried the place a few time in the last 6 months. It's short or incompetently or indifferntly staffed. Food can take ages to get, and in our experience orders are often wrong. It regularly has no Draught Bitter choice ( Four pumps and none working today ) My mates and I eventually followed several other people who had given up and gone out, to gosomewhere else, having taken ages not to get served. Once again we promised each other not to go back. Will guarantee to keep the promise this time.
