The Bear, Oxford

Traditional pub - lovely interior. Service not particularly good. Had to wait a long time for meal to arrive and it was very average - expensive too.

The Prospect of Whitby, Wapping

I went with a group of friends on Saturday evening and loved this pub. We didn't try the food so I don't know if the negative comments are justified or not, but the service for drinks was very good and I don't recognise the negative comments on the bar staff - they seemed to work very hard,. It's on the tourist trail and a coach load of Italians turned up part-way through the evening but they were served separately at the end of the bar and the staff coped very well. The pub itself is stunning - fantastically atmospheric - and the river terraces are absolutely perfect for observing the boats on the Thames. And the views of Canary Wharf are amazing.

The Man in Space, Trentham

I've been a to the Man in Space several times over the past year and like it very much. The service is efficient and friendly even though it can get very busy at weekends. The locals are welcoming and there's a good a outside area for overspill on warm summer evenings (yes we have had some this year). The food is pretty much standard pub grub and reasonably good value. Overall it's the sort of place most people would like to have as their local pub.

The White Cross, Richmond

Called in on a hot July afternoon and found it to be a wonderful place. The interior is full of charm and atmosphere. There is a good range of beer. The staff were friendly - even though it was busy. There is also an outside area overlooking the river - a fantastic bonus even if it does get very busy in Summer.

Jolly Potters, Stoke on Trent

I was there in June 2010 and it doesn't seem to have changed at all since the reviews back in 2005 & 2006. Very old-fashioned pub with good sized garden. Quiet and reassuringly traditional.

The Kings Arms, Soho

Appalling place. Overpriced and over-crowded. Smallest and smelliest toilets of any gay pub I know. In spite of it's supposedly friendly reputation, the staff are attitude-ridden queens. This pub has been trading on it's old reputation for too long and really needs a shake-up.

The Richmond Arms, Richmond

Gay-friendly pub that attracts slightly older gay guys early in the evening and a younger mixed gay/straight crowd later on. Gets a lot noisier as the night progresses - disco music after 9pm towards the end of the week & at weekends. It's unique in Richmond so worth supporting but I wish the manager would improve the quality of the bar staff. They are invariably young males who are definitely not picked for their customer service abilities - some are ok but some have no idea how to work behind a bar. Actually it would be nice to see the manager around more - he might get more out of his staff if he was more involved. Oh yes and it's expensive too - West End prices.

The Gallery, Pimlico

Incredibly overpriced with unfriendly staff (the manager sets the tone for this.) It seems to survive on catching unwary tourists on their way to Tate Britain so I don't suppose the manager gives a damn anyway because he knows they won't be back. There are much better pubs in the area so give this one a miss.

The Moon Under Water, Hounslow

Very bad attitude from staff in this pub. Service is appalling unless you happen to be a friend of the blonde barmaid - in which case you are served quickly and have the bonus of a long chat about your mutual friends while everyone else has to wait. There is also a lot of loud swearing from some of the regulars which the staff seen to ignore - maybe they've just become used to it but it creates a very unpleasant atmosphere for casual visitors. Decor is looking tatty and adds to the feeling that the pub is on the way down.
