The Griffin, Whetstone

Great pub, good atmosphere, fantastic garden when the sun does shine.
A sound 8/10

The Bank, New Southgate

A bit rough and ready but essentially ok. Cheap as chips just like the Occasional in N13

I like the way the Landlady was prepared to step-in & bar chucknorris on line (3rd Dec '07) but not prepared to step in to try and defend/explain the complaints about the woeful food & service.

Come on love where are you now?

This sunday gone the weather was good so we decided to go and have a quiet pint in the very pleasant Garden. The pub were doing a BBQ which I thought was a great idea so went to the bar and got two drinks and ordered 2 steak sandwiches from the BBQ, I was a little suprised it came to 22.20 but assumed it must be good-I don't mind paying genuine money for good value- instead what we received was 2 scrag-ends of hidiously chewy meat a small piece of corn and a few salad leafs. There were others in the garden moaning but like most Brits probably didn't complain. Avoid the BBQ at all costs- put simply its a bloody rip-off.

The Fox Public House, Palmers Green

Just to be clear- it's a 1000 times better now than it has been in about 10 years.

Sadly the lovely landlady has gone to pastures new in Edmonton. Even more sadly the bloke from the Faltering Fallback has taken over. I can't be bothered to go into it but the other night he was a complete arrogant bastard. There was hardly anyone in there so news of his people's skills have obviously spread. Watch this place go under now!

The Fox Public House, Palmers Green

Slick- I agree - I meant before it was turned into the Sports Pub, when that couple from Bristol owned it (Barry White & Mrs!) not in the recent past when it was full of wannabe gangsters and yobs.

Goose, Wood Green

It used to be alright, and cheap I went there a month or so ago after about 2 years, full of winos and it stank. By all accounts it's getting better again.

Yates's Wine Lodge, Wood Green

Awful. They must have the same recruiting policy as the equally crud Weatherspoons next door- you'll be hard pushed to find ruder and more disinterested staff. This includes the door man-
Don't go here, not even for 1, life is too short

Whole Hog, Palmers Green

Hasn't changed cosmetically since its Weatherspoons days.

The Fox Public House, Palmers Green

Almost as good as it used to be prior to its 'facelift'all those years ago. Good music and a good atmosphere- good for football.

BRB at The Gate, Alexandra Park

Looks promising from the outside, but in reality it's rubbish. Is it a pub? Is it a pizzeria? Caught in a weird half way house. The crappy background muzak you get in pretentious city pubs drove me mad. whatever you're in to I guess......

The Wishing Well, Palmers Green

ellie, it's very much the same- if you're in N12 the O'Neills up the road isn't too bad- they have bands on the weekends.

Spouter's Corner, Wood Green

Same as all Weatherspoons, ok for a pint. We only bother with it when we do a bit of shopping in WG Blessed with the quality and committed staff that is rife throughout Wood Green- Rude, surly, dis-interested and unwelcoming.

The Nelson, Wood Green

Can be rowdy on weekends, not a bad boozer at all. Agree with the painting.....christ!

The Wishing Well, Palmers Green

A good lively bar-yes very Irish (music etc) but you don't have to go in there! RE comments below: I agree, I'm passiontly English but have never experienced or heard any anti-English comments. Spent many a good evening in the Wishing Well-
By the way has anyone been in the EXACT replica Wishing Well in N12?

The Inn on the Green, Palmers Green

Great pub been going there for years, live music every friday and saturday can be a bit same-ish I suppose but alway very friendly. Run with military precision by Huey.

Henleys Bar, Wood Green

Not a bad little pub, not sure how it survives. I've been in there on a sat night and there's been 4 other people in there. Seems freindly enough. (apart from that incredibly loud regular-if you've been in there whilst he's been in there you'll know exactly who I mean.)

The Ranelagh, Bounds Green

Great garden, however far too expensive, not really a real pub, and not my cup of tea, horses for courses I suppose. The guy that did the quiz put me off too- a bit of a pleb.

The Springfield Bar & Grill, Bounds Green

A good old fashioned unpretentious boozer. Hasn't been decorated in 35 years, but who cares.
Half decent smoking area too.

The Occasional Half, Palmers Green

Great little pub, never really used to go in there, but have been frequenting quiet alot in the last year or so. Very freindly staff and the mix of punters, strangly works well and creates a good atmosphere.

You have to worry about the future of this place with no real smoking area.

The Alfred Herring, Palmers Green

Like every Weatherspoon's in England: Clean, polite staff, good selection of spirits and ales, cheap, boring, microwaved burgers, no atmoshere & the mandatory patrons clinging on to a pint of guest ale for three and a half hours.
