The Blacksmith's Arms, Rotherhithe
This is a first class pub. The building is authentic 1930s and has been well preserved. The (Thai) bar staff are excellent, the beer well kept and presented, and the Thai food at the back is fantastic.
Good mix of local residents and tourists from the Hilton next door. 9/10.

Gordon's Wine Bar, Charing Cross
This is one of London's drinking gems. Very atmospheric a unique venue. And there lies the rub. It's too popular. And what's with the staff these days? The current crop are incredibly rude and aggressive. There's no need to herd people around like cattle. Someone should remind them that it's the paying customer who is paying their wages! A little respect please!

Hadn't noticed any smelly people... I like this place. It is a bit expensive - and small, but the staff seem friendly and it has a nice atmosphere. The area is desperately short of anywhere half-decent but this is OK.

This is a well-run pub. The manager knows exactly what he's doing and the food is well above average. Very popular with netball players!

The Ship and Shovell, Charing Cross
Very busy place but in an ideal location for lots of West End attractions without the prats. I really like it and the staff are friendly and efficient. Very pleasant on a Saturday lunchtime.

Hadn't been in for a while and couldn't believe how improved it is. They've got rid of most of those horrible "knick-knacks" and the place has a real, freshness about it. Good range of drinks but it's not cheap.

Wonderful boozer. Tucked up a side street, so off the beaten tourist trail. The staff are excellent. Only complaint is the large football screen which occasionally descends for games which no-one seems very intrested in.

The Punch Tavern, Fleet Street
Oh what have they done. .. This used to be a fantastic pub full of characters and interest. Now it's hideous. They've cut the place in two (it's half the size it was) and it's a mess. And what bright spark thought it was a good idea to include a bloody fish tank in the middle of the room! And the ersatz "bric-a-brac" does nothing to improve the cheap, tawdry shadow of a former great self. Avoid!

Not smart. Not sophisticated. Just a good boozer. Landlord knows exactly how to run the business. If that wasn't enough... its often full of hockey players...

My local and one of the best pubs in London. If you haven't been... GO!
Cheap beer, excellent staff, wonderful location, great atmosphere.
Not touristy but very popular with visitors when they find it.

The Horniman at Hays, Southwark
Nice pub... shame about the staff. Yes its busy, and the landlady tries, but basically, they need more staff, especially on Friday nights.
And while we're on the subject of the staff, I actually saw one of the barmen pick his nose and wipe it on the bar. I've not been back since!

The Prospect of Whitby, Wapping
Just spent New Year's Eve here are what a dismal experience. I don't know what the problem is with this place, just very badlly run. Avoid it like the plague!
Any brewery worth its salt would make this the jewel in its crown. Fantastic location, historic building, garden. Instead it is run like a student union bar.
To be fair the New Year 'nite' was cheap, and we soon found out why. The 'DJ' insisted on playing crap music, about as suitable for the occasion as a dose of the clap. He insisted on playing 'his choice' and presumably, for the bunch of dodgy cronies he brought along with him. The 'food' was inedible.
Half the punters left before the midnight hour. These were affluent customers who would have spent A LOT OF CASH. Well done brwery... everyone was was a loser!!!
