Red Lion, Woolverton

I will be avoiding Wadworth pubs in future. Had to send a pint back because it was off, and my partner's salad was sodden and wilting. My lunch of ham, egg and chips was godawful, frankly. The young barman was a true gent, but the manageress doesn't understand what makes a good 21st century pub experience. I suggest management visits a good pub, there are, thankfully, plenty around.

The Royal Oak, Wotton-Under-Edge

Old-fashioned, but mellow, interior; vocal Camra supporters drinking at the bar; knowledgeable young lad serving ale. Why then, was the Uley beer off? Despite, apparently, the barrel being changed the day before. Was hoping to find one good pub in Wotton but sadly they stubbornly don't seem to want to move with the times i.e. have a customer service ethic that can weather the 21st Century.

The Falcon Hotel, Wotton-under-Edge

The best that can be said is that the beer was well-kept, and they have loyal locals. Didn't feel friendly, however (bar staff aside), and annoying TV on, in the bar. Wotton suffers from a dearth of good pubs. The Old Spot in Dursley far superior to all of them in this poor benighted town!

The Seven Tuns, Chedworth

Quirky, lavish interior, nice beer garden with huge willow shading it. Hook Norton are the regular beers, but I had a nice Tap Brewery (Glos.) IPA. Sunday roast was excellent, and place was well-staffed. I gather they had a kitchen fire in June, so food was being made (very capably) in a van outside. Beautiful village, came here before visiting the Roman Villa.

The Hog, Horsley

We live in Dursley and came for Sunday lunch. Food was great, and they had Stroud breweries (IPA, Tom Long and a Porter) on tap, plus Cotswold Brewery IPA land lager. Good service. Place is very new and as such feels like it; a few years down the line should feel more 'bedded in' and cosy, but still it's a nice interior, plus there's covered outside tables for the local hippies to sup cider and smoke rollies at.
