Rodboro Buildings, Guildford

Visited this pub three times this year for a curry, pizza & meat pudding. Every time food was excellent and atmosphere pleasant. Had a long wait for food on new years day but we were warned. Sorry, not allowed to drink beer, medical problems, can't comment on the beers.

Saturday lunch time, 4 adults & 3 children, food arrived quickly, was piping hot & very good. Each meal with a drink for the cost of £35. Excellent, thoroughly enjoyable.

Old Orleans, Guildford

Saturday 16th April 2016 & it was being painted externally, looks like it may be opened again one day.

Good beer, great food, friendly staff that really care, could not ask for more.

The Live and Let Live, Guildford

This pub has now shut for good and is boarded up as part of a large development for a Waitrose store.

Good pub, upstairs seating perhaps best if eating, food was good, piping hot and delivered quickly.

Still shut.
Not a problem as lots of decent nearby drinking places. I live close by and will keep an eye on a possible opening date.

The Seven Stars, Ripley

Knowing the reports of this pub I was disappointed when our group, (of 22 persons,) was going to use this for a mid-week lunch. However, there were no complaints, food was excellent, piping hot and service was OK. Only problem as we ordered our meals a wooden spoon was issued with a number painted on it. The kitchen seemed to ignore this system and staff came out shouting, 'Roast beef' or whatever. Course us old fogies had long forgotten what we had ordered.

The Crooked Billet, Colney Heath

We were tempted by the high rating and a large board outside offering Sunday roasts. Unfortunately we arrived after 2.00pm when the kitchen closed.

I have enjoyed meals and drinks all over the world but this is the only country where I have not been offered an out of hours snack, a microwave or even sandwiches. Don't they want our custom? We were not even offered a packet of crisps. Maybe it was a bad day, certainly the staff had a sour look about them. It would be so nice to see the staff smiling, chatting to the customers and even providing a little service.

My only advice if you want to open your wallet and spend money, go elsewhere.

Ye Olde Ship Inn, Guildford

Excellent food, friendly staff, I walk past 5 pubs to get to this, without doubt my favourite pub.

**The comment by assortedcreams on 2 July 2010 has been copied and pasted to other pubs in this area to. Not sure what he's up to but I wouldn't pay attention to it as this is a lovely pub**

That's a bit unfair. I posted accidentally to the wrong pub and my next post apologised. Please check all my posts you will see I have only done it the once and have tried to be very fair when commenting. I have asked for both posts to be removed but get no response. I can only repeat my experience when the wife and I sat in the pub with 3 locals. We were the first to arrive and it started off very friendly sitting at the bar with one other but the atmosphere changed when the others arrived.

The Drummond, Guildford

Tried it again and happy to say completely different from my last visit in Nov. 2008. Good selection of beers, friendly staff, and good food. Very much a student pub although not in the town centre. Sorry being much older just don't like loud background music, unable to find a table where my party could talk without shouting.

The Wheatsheaf on the Green, Esher

Excellent food, friendly & efficient staff, good old fashioned pub well patronised by the locals with a pleasant atmosphere.

The Canbury Arms, Kingston Upon Thames

Whenever we are in Kingston we make to this pub for a lunchtime meal and beer. Always find the food good and staff friendly, a first class service, strongly recommended.

Sorry, should have posted the last comment on the Kings Head, my apologies.

This is a beautiful village, an ideal place where I would love to spend the final days of my retirement. Visited this pub on a midweek lunch time. Good selection of local beers, the food quality was good but we considered expensive. Only 3 locals in that lunch time but it was made very clear by them and the staff we were not welcome. We could have stayed, enjoyed the beers and caught the 4.10 bus home but opted for the 1.30. Will not be going back.

Fantastic place, love the village and the pub. First Surrey village I have visited that is not on a busy road. I had a home made pie for lunch which was excellent but the wife's whitebait was not up to standard. Unfortunately served by the same woman who served tapis which was rather off putting but at least given a friendly wave by the landlord when we left. Will return to sample the beers.

The White Hart, Witley

I would echo the comments of Buster01. Shame the landlord is leaving a great pub. The brewery, Shepherd Neame are an absolute disgrace.

The White Horse, Shere

Sorry, must come back on my comment of the 18th Feb. On discussing this pub with members of the walking group some time later I understand a couple found the food so bad they took it back and received a full refund. I was not aware of this until just recently. While my original comment still stands I apologise if anyone read my views and were later disappointed.

The Barley Mow, West Horsley

Visited the pub for a midweek meal. Has the pleasant atmosphere of a village local. Well run by the landlord with good food at a reasonable price. One of the few pubs I have dragged my wife to where she has expressed a wish to return. Can't say better than that.

Rodboro Buildings, Guildford

The wife & I, being retired, tend to avoid the busy night times, but find it a pleasant watering hole. Good selection cheap beers, good service, friendly staff and cheap food which for the price we consider good value for money.

Cricketers Inn, Pirbright

Visited the pub with a walking group, intended to stay for a pint and a meal but both food and drink were expensive. Certainly not a friendly pub, in fact I don't think the girl spoke English, so although our group were the only visitors we did not stay. Very disappointed, will not go back, and reading comments on this and the other two pubs in Pirbright glad we are not locals.

The Fountain, Chichester

Had a lunch time meal here. Very pleasant atmosphere, good food and friendly staff, strongly recommended.

The Drummond, Guildford

This is my nearest pub, I visited it twice last week. If you want a pub with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff forget it. The place has the atmosphere of a turkey farm on boxing day.

West Town, Hayling Island

Visited this pub for a lunch time meal with friends. Good food and made to feel welcome by the landlord and his wife.

The Live and Let Live, Guildford

Visited the pub 18th September, I am afraid it's shut again.

The Half Moon, Ripley

Had a midweek pint and dinner, both very enjoyable in quiet & pleasant surroundings. Nice pub.

The Grantley Arms, Wonersh

Visited on a Saturday lunch time, 6 adults and an infant. Full marks for the excellent food, staff who could not do more to help and pleasant atmosphere. Strongly recommend this pub, next time will visit by bus to sample the local ales.

The Stag, Ascot

Excellent food, good beer and friendly staff, a very pleasant Saturday lunchtime, well worth visiting again.

The Hinton Arms, Cheriton

Almost every aspect of this pub was excellent, the food, which arrived in minutes despite being so busy, the atmosphere, the staff who were so warm and friendly, the beer, but why oh why have background music? Apart from that one minor point can strongly recommend this pub.

22 Jul 2007 20:34

Ye Olde Ship Inn, Guildford

Visited the Old Ship for the first time Sunday lunch time. Found the pub warm, (lovely log fire,) and all the staff friendly and cheerful. Food and beer was good but we arrived early to avoid the Sunday rush. Had a very pleasant lunch time, unable to find anything to quibble about.
