The Southampton Arms, Gospel Oak

This pub sets the standards for other pubs to try and follow in regard to drinks and music. Really well chilled lager and proper temperature cider. Other pubs take note. Great staff......only problem is it is hard to hear conversation so I think everyone yells a bit and not just because they are happily ensconced in an excellent pub.

The Inn At Kew, Kew

Walked in, waited at the bar for 10 minutes whilst the barmaid chatted to a couple who had no drinks. The pub was almost empty. She continued to ignore us even when I asked if anyone was serving. A man came and did something behind the bar, ignored us, then left. We had decided this was going to be our last visit if the service had not improved but it seems their knack of employing contemptuous staff has continued. Never again. Their are much better places nearby.

The Fox and Goose, Hebden Bridge

BRILLIANT. In this co-operative pub the drinks are superb and well kept (no warm lager for example) and the staff are just great. This is a proper pub and everyone who has worked so hard to save it can feel very chuffed with themselves.

The City Barge, Chiswick

An important contribution to this stretch of Chiswick. I would agree some of the charm has been lost in the renovation but compared to what Chef and Brewer did to to the Bulls's Head, it could have been a lot worse and there is space for that increasingly novel act in a pub: drinking.
They take their drinks seriously and there is a good selection and quite a few of the staff really know there stuff. Well done. I do find the food a bit pricey although their drinks are reasonable. The staff work hard so they deserve success. One little thing, the piped music can be a bit naff but it is great that they have brought back live music.

The Express Tavern, Kew Bridge

So far, so excellent. Renovated without being ruined and lager drinkers are not treated like inferior beings, Camden Hells served at a good price for these parts. Plenty of choice for beer and cider drinkers. Music via a record player just like The estimable Southampton Arms. We have not tried the food yet but the prices again, are very reasonable for this area. I think this has the makings of a really good proper pub and there are not many of those about. Hurrah

The Red Lion, Isleworth

This is a great proper pub. It is therefore such a pity that the attitude to lager drinkers is similar to run of the mill pubs. Please can we too have craft beers/lager for example Bitburger or Meantime (london) or Camden (London).
Other than that this is a brilliant pub with a good attitude to dogs and eccentricity. Hurrah

Ye White Hart, Barnes

Is this a pub anymore? Good choice of Camden products but not their standard lager. Why not?
Very expensive menu and no vegetables even with the fish and chips unless you wish to pay £3.50 for "peas and onions" There is hay though.
