The Hare and Hounds, East Sheen
Speaking as an integral member of a four-time winning pub quiz team (from only 6 appearances mind you!) I can heartily recommend this public house! It used to have a snooker table in the back of the main bar where I first tried out my black mamba cue, but that's gone now to make way for some cosy little booths. Decent ales, good pub grub, large beer garden, dog friendly, full length locking door in the (only) cubicle in the blokes bogs etc, etc. If you buy 2 main meals over a combined certain price (�13?) you get a free bottle of wine! A potentially messy but very welcome touch!

Decent enough place for watching footy when you're in town. On a Champion's League Wednesday the other night they had Man Utd on one set of screens and the Arsenal match on some others. Which is nice. The grub is standard pub fare but the selection of beers is better than some places (although not outstanding). Gets busy but it's big enough to handle it. It used to be the only normal pub open late at the weekends but with the extended licesing hours now I'm sure there are planty of others. It's a trek downstairs to the lavs but at least the (only) cubicle in the bloke's has full a length locking door.

Seeing as how most of central Northampton seems to be filled with noisy, Chav-stained hell pits where you'd be more likely to get bottled than sozzled, The Fish is a welcome exception. Decent selection of ales, a quiz machine of the type that I seem to be coming increasingly addicted to, decent enough toilets (complete with locking full length cubicle door) and the last time I was in here, to the delight of the Brucie Boys Football team, Bruce Forsythe was on the goggle box in the corner! Hurrah!

Decent enough. OK ale selection, good pub grub, plasma TV's for the sport, some comfy sofas etc etc. On the down side it gets pretty smoky and it's a bit rugger-buggery. My residing memory of this place though was when I quietly asked a barman if he could get some more toilet paper for the blokes toilet (clean, full length locking door) as it had run out in there. He then proceded to ask a really fit, young barmaid rather loudly to go and get some. She then gave me a huge industrial sized roll with a look on her face that seemed to say 'if I didn't fancy you in the first place, the fact that I know you're going for a dump means that I certainly don't now!'

You can buy a membership card thing for �2 that will get you money off beers. By the time you've bought 3 or 4 drinks you've made your money back. Bonus. The barmaids in here are pretty lush, it's true. They are however not the most motivated of workers i've ever seen. Trad pub grub is not bad. It's more of a lager bar than an ale pub but it's a decent size with 2 bar levels and big screens plus comfy sofas. Good for pre & post-match boozing (up the Saints!). Last time I was in there I heard a lot of sniffing and snorting coming from behind one of the locking, full length toilet cubicle doors. And then out walked noe of the bouncers! Maybe he had a cold?

This place was a heavenly oasis after our 4 hour, 10 mile hike around Pen-y-fan in the September sun the other day. Having said that, anywhere serving beer would have had the same effect. We would have gone to a place down the road in Brecon but right outside it a pissed girl was kicking the shit out of some bloke's car! It was only 6pm! The Tai'r has a decent selection of ales which I am pleased to say seems to be the norm in this area of Cardiff/Wales. Amazing views from the beer garden/patio, clean toilets with proper locking doors. Bar is small as resaurant takes up most of the pub. Seemed friendly, even to a bunch of English lads! A group of girls on a hen night dressed in tight, pink t-shirts gave us good entertainment too!

On my one visit to The Claude we sat on the "old man's" side but were still able to hear one of the worst covers bands ever from the other bar. They played mostly Stereophonics songs and we joked that they were probably called the Monophonics. And guess what, we were right. We wondered if the hairy bloke that got kicked out of the real 'Phonics was the drummer, although as we never ventured over to the much busier side of the pub we never found out. Instead we supped on our ales (not a bad selection, which seems to thankfully be the norm for Cardiff) and watched as a mildly cute girl in a pink t-shirt went to the toilets at least 6 times in just over an hour. For some reason she seemed more agitated and with increasing sniffles every time she came out! She left with a big, fat geeky bloke too which was interesting.

This place must have been designed for a nearby tribe of midgets in the valleys because in the bloke's toilets the urinals, sink and hand drier are all extremely low. Below waist height even. Like most pubs I've been in on the outskirts of Cardiff though there are a good selection of ales in the Lewis. Also full(ish) length locking cubicle doors, outside seating and possibly the best Par 3/Pitch & Put course just round the corner.

I was up in Inverary recently (which to be fair is not blessed with masses of pubs) and chose The George as the place to celebrate the occaision of my 33rd birthday and the engagement to my girlfriend. It was recommended to us by a quality local kilt maker that I bought a hat from round the corner. And we couldn't have picked a better place! To be honest i knew it was going to be a decent venue when I popped in the day before for a cheeky pint and heard the first 2 Led Zeppelin albums playing on the pub stereo! The George stocks some tasty local ales, stacks and stacks of whiskies and just about any tipple you could wish for really. The food is fantastic (I had haggis and venison) although you do have to wait for a while on a saturday to be seated. It's open till midnight, has live bands, a good mix of punters and also my hearty recommendation.

The Central Bar, Shepherds Bush
The main reason I ever go in here is cos it's the nearest pub the the cinema (about 20 seconds walk to be exact) and cos it's dirt cheap. Stupidly cheap almost. It's always busy with the sort of punter that spends all day, every day bloating on the cheap beer, sucking in the yellow fog and talking bollocks to anyone who'll listen. There really are some "characters" in here. Women with make-up drunkly smeared literally all over their face. Girls in short skirts with no knickers who sit on stools and don't care who has a look. I could go on but what do you expect from a Wetherspoons (apart from their ridiculous no music policy)? This place is actually a bit of a guilty pleasure. Sitting by the window and watching the World bustle by outside in the heart of Shepherds Bush, whilst safe in the knowledge that your last round cost you about a fiver for 3 pints and putting the World to rights with some mates is actually not too bad. The last time I was in here there were a couple of extremely easy on the eye barmaids too. It's clean, they serve pub grub, the toilet doors are locking full length ones. There are better pubs nearby sure, but that doesn't mean you can't stop in here for a couple too though.

The best pub in Isleworth without a doubt! It's a bit shabby inside (although not overly so) but the great beer garden, the ever changing guest ales, the quiz nights, the live bands on Fridays and Saturdays and especially the recent Beer Festival make this pub a must visit. The staff are friendly, there are 2 seperate bars and although no food is served I cannot recommend it enough. Darts, pool table, locking full length tolet doors. What else can I say. Everyone should make next year's August bank holiday the time when they spend the whole weekend here at the Beer Festival. Mine's a pint of Stinger!

A small pub gets a small review. Tables outside on the (quiet) street = good for watching all the passing people stagger down to the riverside. Decent beers. Good food (apparently). Tasty but grumpy bar maid. Fat dog slouching outside which is polite enough to go piss across the other side of the street and then come back to resume it's chip-scrounging position. Clean toilets down ricketty staircase with locking cubicle door.

It's riverside location is the one saleable factor for The Old Ship. You can sit out on the grass and watch the massive cross-section of Londoners wander/jog/stagger past. When the sun hits the Thames and you've got that good beer buzz going it wouldn't really matter which pub had sold you the pint. On that subject, �3 for a pint of generic lager? �7.50 for a burger? And that's WITHOUT chips! Due to it's aforementioned location this place is pretty rammed in the summer. I'd probably recommend it as part of a river-based pub crawl but not to spend the whole night here. Unless you can take out a second mortgage for those prices that is. Lots of sniffing and snorting coming from the locking door Gent's cubicles last time I was in there too.

The Slug and Lettuce, Richmond
As Slug & Letti (plural of lettuce?) go this isn't a bad one. As everyone has said below, the location by the river is great (although I would probably suggest the White Horse next door for an even better riverside supp). At least they have 1 ale on sale here (Bombadier) which is more than can be said for some Slugs. Some comfy seats inside, pretty spacious, above average pub grub etc blah yadda. The blokes toilets are not the best as algis100 says, but at least you get a mini personal sink in the cubicle which has a locking door too!

Despite the dubious tourist-enticing use of the word 'Ye' in the title, this is a decent little pub. A good selection of beers including 3 ales (all Youngs) and fairly cheap for London in you drink the Brewery brews. I love the big circular bar in the middle of the room and the winding trek to the downstairs loos where there is some classic cock and balls grafitti on the back of the full length locking cubicle door. Good outside area with great Thames views and a cool little hut too.

What the hell is "stripe info" when it's at home? Or when it's down the pub watching the football supping a nice ale for that matter? Point taken on the "low female front" though. Haven't seen many lovely lasses down there myself. With a low front or otherwise!

However, if you happen to like men kicking balls around a big green thing then this is a good pub. In fact, it's a decent place whether you like football or not. There is a good choice of lagers and ales that are different to your usual pub choice. Last night there were 4 ales on (although 3 of them ran out during the night!) and they have guest ones which change fairly regularly. Can't comment on the food but it looked alright. The atmosphere in here is pretty non-existent but it's a good size place with loads of seating. Floor to celing locking door in the Gents, thankyou please. The screens Ruby talks about are all decent plasmas plus there's a big screen for the big games. If Ruby doesn't like footy then he should just avoid it on a Sunday afternoon I guess. And Monday nights. Saturday lunchtime and evenings have Prem Plus games I suppose, so they're out. Wednesday is Champions League night. Oh, so is Tuesday night. Sometimes there's UEFA Cup matches on a Thursday night isn't there? Football League Fizzy Football gets shown on a Friday night so best not come in then. So that leaves.... Oh well Rubes, there's always the summer months. Not this summer of course, it's the World Cup.

Not quite sure why this is called the 'Rutland ALE HOUSE' as there is very little ale on sale here. Just a lonely pint of London Pride mixed in with the usual generic lagers. I went here for a mate's birthday recently and although it would make an OK starting point for a night out, for some reason we stayed here all night. Despite the crap beers, the dirty glasses (my lips stuck to the rim of a pint glass at one stage), the lack of air con (and for that matter atmosphere), there are some redeeming featues. The view of The Thames is pretty good, it's open till late (midnight) at weekends, the food is slightly above average pub fare, and it doesn't get too rammed as it's off the high street. Dull but functional sums it up. Only one toilet cubicle in the Gents which although locks isn't floor to ceiling.

I feel a bit torn about this pub. It doesn't really represent what the true Wimborne pub should be (cosy, beam-ridden ale house) but I have had some good nights here. It's more of a bar and a restaurant than a pub but it's got some comfy seats and there is generally a decent selection of brews on sale. To be honest, the only reason I've been in there over the last couple of years is because it's one of the few places on Christmas Eve that doesn't charge you entry or require a ticket. I've met up with some old school chums in here on those occasions so it kind of holds good memories. Having said that given the choice I would probably head somewhere else (Coach, Hart, Pudding etc) 99% of the time. Floor to ceiling locking doors in the clean toilets a bonus though.

The Brewmaster, Leicester Square
This pub is like a scuffed up old Clarkes shoe. It's a bit tatty and is pretty standard but you still get a sense of comfort out of it. During the summer it's probably a tourist-filled nightmare, but on a windy wednesday night in February it's pretty decent. The beer selection is OK and the standard pub grub does exactly what it says on the pub grub tin. Nice little winding staircase, comfy sofas and an upstairs lounge bar which most people seem to be oblivious of. Incidently if you sit in one of the window booths upstairs you get a lovely view of the Angus Steak House opposite! It's a bit tired and I wouldn't want to spend all night there but The Brewmaster is a good place to start a night especially as it's situated right slap bang next to Leicester Square tube. Full length locking toilet door too!

I went to Brighton on a stag weekend recently (novel idea I know) and we walked around for bloody ages trying to decide on what pub to go into. For some hellish unknown reason some bright spark decided that we would start the night in here! This is without a doubt the worst pub I have ever had the misfortune to frequent. Now, I've got nothing against Wetherspoon pubs in general. In fact I've spent some memorable afternoons/evenings having a sup and a chinwag in some of them (the one in Shepherd's Bush for example). But this cess pit should be flattered that it's current rating is a massive 2.7/10. It's brighter than Steven Hawking (which only helps you see how dirty it is), the bouncers are nazi's (ie you cant take glasses on any part of the pub that isn't a totally flat surface (ie not stairs of any kind) and certainly not if you don't have any proof of ID with you) and the clientel really are not a good advert for the population of Brighton. The toilets were pretty clean though and the cublicles had locking floor to celing doors. And some of the girls in there that night had some of the biggest hooters I've ever experinced with my naked eye (altough unfortunately not my naked hands) Small mercies. Big tits, but small mercies.

I posted a comment about the Page waaaay back in September 2003 and went back again the other night for the first time in a while. Even though my team got done live on Sky while I was there I still had a decent enough time here, so that must say something good about either the pub or the people I was with (and if you've met my mates you'll no doubt assume the former!(joke lads, joke)). There is a decent selection of beers which I don't remember being too pricey and a coupe of the barmaids/waitesses were stunners! The barman/manager bloke was very helpfull in getting the footy on all the screens for us (which due to the aforementioned performance from my shite team was a wastes of time but 10/10 for effort on his part). It was a touch too bright at the end of the pub nearest the street and pretty smokey down the other end but what's a pub without a bit of bright light and fag smoke? (answer: a better pub). One nice touch was the eternally flushing toilet in the gents. It didn't overflow but it constantly whisked away your 'waste' while you sat there which was a unique experience. Not so much fun though if you're one of those blokes that likes to see how impressive his 'deposit' is once he's done. Locking floor to ceiling cubicle door too which is increasingly rare these days.

Good to see a nice bit of banter in some of the comments below. This place is kind of a guilty pleasure for me and some of my mates. I'm not 18 and my eyes aren't wide-eyed and innocent and I don't still use words like 'revision', 'lessons' and 'what's a hangover?' so I probably don't fit the target punter picture for The Lot. However, I really like coming here at the end of a night out. All the clientel are very easy on the eye, the prices (if not the beer selection) are alright and the staff (including the bouncers even) are pretty friendly. The video jukebox/giant screen is fun and I've ploughed a fortune into the addictive quiz machines. The toilets have locking doors that go down to the floor too which is a bonus. It feels like a student union because ostensibly thats what it is I guess, but unions are fun and that's exactly what The Lot is too. A word of warning though: if someone called Ruby offers you a head massage while you're here, whatever you do DON'T ACCEPT IT!

Went there for the first time the other night with a few mates and thought it was top. The landlord (Matt, I think) was dead friendly and even bought me a couple of 'welcome' beers as I said I was looking for a local since moving in to the area. Good beers, good people, they show all the footy games and there are live bands too apparently. Can't recommend it enough.

Don't like this place. I've been turned away for wearing trainers before, and threatened by the asian gangs that seem to congregate inside. Avoid. There are better pubs round the corner.

I always thought the landlord was a decent bloke. Anyway, bit of an old guffers kind of pub but good for a quiet beer. You can generally get a seat and the jukebox has a half decent selection of tunes.

Absolutely the best pub in the World for watching big football matches. I've never seen England lose a game here! Great fun place, but can get very packed. Not expensive but the toilets are grim. There used to be this stunning blonde behind the bar with big jugs but haven't seen her for ages. Shame.

It's a fairly bog-standard Wetherspoons pub but I have some top memories of going here back in my Uni days. Good starting off point for a night out with cheap beer and tons of room.

Bedford's Bar, Southampton
Ahh Bedfords. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Mark Dennis holding court about the good ol' days surrounded by Saints nutters. Free FIFA on the PS2 on a plasma screen for me and my mates while eating a 'bucket of burgers'. Nicely sozzled with Jim playing endless games of pool and then Haggis turning up in a suit looking disapprovingly at us. Pre-match expectation. Post-match celebration (sometimes!). The old video jukebox pumping out the Indie hits. Nice barmaids and student totty. Locking cubicle door. Nick buying a round. Actually, scratch that last one.
