The Swan and Edgar, Marylebone

Now called the Swan & Edgar, this pub has the best atmosphere of any in the area. Very cosy on a rainy London evening!

Occo, Marylebone

Absolutely terrible! Had to wait for at least fifteen minutes after we ordered drinks at the bar as the bartender kept serving other people in between. Then we were caught out by the two for one beer offer, as the very small print said it only applies to two types of beer. Finally, halfway through our first drink they tried to make us move from our outside table as apparently there was a party at the bar starting later, but there were no reserved signs or other signs anywhere. We left very disappointed!

Gordon's Wine Bar, Charing Cross

Great atmosphere and excellent wine selection (a beaker of tawny is essential for any visit!).

Pelican In Her Piety, Ogmore By Sea

We did not enjoy our visit to this pub due to the poor service. We went with another couple who ordered food at the bar at the same time we did, and all of us gave the same name for the table so it was clear we were eating together. Our friends' meals arrived and were eaten. Our meals arrived approximately half an hour later. When I asked what the reason was for the delay the waitress was extremely rude and told me it was my fault for ordering separately to my friends (even though she knew we were at the same table). A simple apology would have sufficed, instead of an argument about why we were wrong.

The meal sizes were very generous but quite expensive (12 for the Sunday roast I think?). The outside seating is a plus, although the adjacent road has a lot of traffic.

The non-alcoholic drink one of us ordered (pint glass of lemonade) was surprisingly expensive.
