The Barley Mow, Marylebone

A major tragedy that this pub is closed. It's quite unique for its two charming, tiny Victorian wooden drinking booths attached to the bar counter. Amazing

The Flying Scotsman, Caledonian Road

The phone no. given here is incorrect and his a private house!

The Narrow Street Pub & Dining Room, Limehouse

Great location by the river but that's just about it. Wasn't impressed by the crowdedness and a very mediocre pint of London Pride.

The Denmark Arms, East Ham

New management here and sensitive refurbishment have improved the place considerably. Just needs some decent real ale.

The Blythe Hill Tavern, Forest Hill

A cracking little pub. Good beer, friendly landlord and locals. It's also a tremendous survivor, still retaining three separate rooms with fittings that probably going back to the 1920s. My only regret is I don't live locally.
(A little curiosity is that you can walk straight across the serving area from the saloon to the lounge at the back).

The Old Pack Horse, Chiswick

Very well kept ale and the Thai food excellent too. I particularly like sitting in the saloon (on the Acton Lane side) which retains its fittings from when the opub went up in 1910 - a delightful place for a drink.

The Royal Oak, Borough

Wonderful beer and atmosphere. The food's good too. My favourite London pub. Harvey's did a great job in recreating traditional-style pub fittings.

Sir Douglas Haig, Effingham

Really grim lunchtime visit on 9 Feb.2007. After 45 mins wait food had not arrived and I was calmly told it would be another 20 minutes. No apology or explanations. Having a meeting to get to I got my money back (after two minutes fumbling) and left hungry and dejected.
