The Brewery Tap, Peterborough

This used to be a 'must visit' whenever in town. A pub with it's own brewery attached that didn't deafen you with music/sport and had decent food. Sadly only the latter appears to be true.
It would appear that the 'brewery' has become a museum piece back-drop to the huge screen sports presentations, and if you stay beyond 10 p.m. prepare to not do any talking as you won't be heard. I know you have to adapt to survive, but to change the character of the place so radically smacks of money-grabbing. Why become another of the faceless-samey-places when you can carve out a niche by being individual? Older 'sister' Charters may have also abandonned it's no music policy, but at least you can hear yourself think....not all volume knobs need to go to eleven...

College Arms, Peterborough

Went to their recent beer festival - my first two choices from the 'menu' weren't available, and both of the ones I did get to try were pretty rank. Probably poor choices on my part, as on other occassions I recall the beer being quite good - and REALLY cheap!
Don't expect to strike up a conversation with strangers at the bar though - they either won't speak the same language or will have been there so long as to make any murmurings unintelligable.

Geneva's, Peterborough

It amy be 'great news' to have Real Ale back, but would you really want to drink it in a place like this?
It makes The College Arms look like a members' club for the discerning gentleman!

What on earth happenend here? Oh yes, I got older...This was always a cliquey place, from the early days of Pete Waller, through the reign of Scott and Martin and is still the same even now with the new(ish) licencees.
Everything has a way of finding it's own level and after an initial spruce-up and refit, Bogarts has now found that level. It's not one I want to share in however....

Bar Bloc, Peterborough

Went recently at 2.00 a.m. for a nightcap after a 'lads' night out. Surprisingly it was full of drunks sleeping off the night's excesses, rather than a party crowd out for extending the fun. Felt more like a homeless refuge than a 'happening' bar....
