The Frog & Wicket, Eversley Cross

What a great pub !
Very cosy, and quirky, with a frog and Cricket theme, with a lot of cricket memorabilia.
Well kept bitters from Gales , plus guest ales.
Great banter from some friendly clientele who you can have a good bit of banter with , as well as v. friendly staff.
Must try the food soon.
I think it would be great sitting outside watching the cricket on a summer evening with a pint of bitter.
The mural in the gents is gloriously Un-PC - well done !!!
If you're looking for some great beer and food, coupled with a liberal dose oif 'Britishness' then this is the place for you !

The Chequers, Eversley

Have been driving past this pub for years thinking "That looks like a cosy pub"
finally had a chance to stop in for a beer tonight.
Very good service from friendly staff
Recently refitted (around May 2012 , I think)
Well fitted out by Chef & Brewer, but now more of a restaurant, with attached pub,
Lacking a bit of atmosphere though, and quite cold.
Toilets very clean , although alarmingly , though newly fitted out, the cold taps were covered in some sort of flying insects, that seemed to be coming out of a hole behind the washstand.
Pub well lit, but the outside sign unlit, making the place look closed !
The Doom Bar was well and truly flat
Headed 300 yards up the road to the Frog & Wicket for a second pint
Pub garden looks like it could be great in Summer (and not on a rainy Winters night !!!)

The Magpie and Parrot, Shinfield

Absolutely superb pub - very quirky cool and British decor.

The fish & chips is to die for on a Friday and their Sweeney Todd Steak and stilton pie is epic. (make sure you call and order food in advance)

An absolute gem of a place.

Keep up the good work chaps. I'll be in for another pie soon !

11/10 !

The George, Earley

Visitied the George with family, follwed by watching a film at the neigbouring cinema.

The George is a fantastic looking pub, with a very welcoming interior (oak beams, log fire etc), but always seems to be 'under new management', and extremely short on staff.

We got our drinks and sat down at a table to decide from the menu on food.

The couple behind us were complaining about the food. Not a good start.
We went to order at the bar to be told that everything on the 'Today's Specials' board was not available, and that one of the dishes was not available'

Having arrived at 12.30, you would have thought they would have been able to order enough food to sell ?
We were then informed that the sweet potato mash was not available, but we could have chipped sweet potato (I guess this could point to everything being frozen)

We then had a member of staff come over holding our receipt and mumble our order back to us, then hand us a vinegar bottle with about a millimetre left of vinegar in it.

50 minutes passed, and they started serving everyone around us (who had arrived AFTER us !!!!) - we complained , as did another table next to us, and got our food another 10 minutes later.

The food was pretty bland and we decided not to risk dessert, the next table were being told at this point that they didn't have a lot of what was on the menu.

We went back to the till to pay on the way out, and were standing next to two people waiting to complain to the manager.

I'm actually angry I wasted my time and money AGAIN on this extremely poor establishment.

Try The Wheelwright Arms for much better pub, whodo not serve up frozen bland food.

The beer is pretty good, but you have to wait an age as they do not have enough bar staff.
