The Standard Inn, Rye

Although we were among the first customers that evening, there seemed to be some things on the short evening menu that they didn't have and there was some confusion about what they actually did have. After ordering, we waited 35 minutes for our meal to come. I had soup which was way too salty. My husband's meal was a very small pie and half-cooked chips. When the waitress came to take our plates she asked if everything was OK. I explained why it wasn't but she just said 'oh'., no apology, no discount, which made me wonder why she'd bothered asking in the first place. One to avoid.

The Bedford, Balham

Freezing cold room and we had to wait an hour after ordering our food for it to appear.
Not recommended.

The Prince Llewellyn, Beddgelert

Soaked to the skin on a wet and windy October day, our bedraggled and shivering group of walkers were overjoyed to see a cosy wood burning stove as we walked into the Prince Llewellynn. The bad news was that the person running the pub, a pleasant enough young man, was sat right in front of it in a T shirt, with a book and a cup of tea. He went off to get our drinks, leaving his book and mug there as markers of 'his' spot. Maybe he could look up the word 'hospitality' in the dictionary. Then the word 'business'. Because if we hadn't been relegated to a chilly corner, we would have bought a second round. Maybe even a third.

The Angel, Rotherhithe

The tall shaven headed barman is clearly in the running for Least Helpful Publican of the Year. I hope he wins. He deserves it. I've heard the Mayflower, down the road, is friendly...
By the way, if you want to drink outside and enjoy the lovely river views on a warm evening. you'd better hope they've bothered to get in some plastic glasses. Otherwise the sign on the door says you have to stay inside and sweat.

The Fox, Caterham

PS Forgot to mention I found the staff condescending too. The young man behind the bar was particularly disdainful in his treatment of me.

The Fox, Caterham

I visited The Fox with a walking group. I had my dog with me. I'd forgotten to bring food for the dog, so I asked the waitress if the kitchen would cook a couple of sausages for the dog (which I would of course pay for). I had to ask 3 times before she remembered to ask the kitchen staff. Then she came out and said yes, they would. I'd been saving a bit of my dinner for the dog in case they said no, but at that point I finished my my own meal. 5 minutes later she came back out and said the kitchen had changed their mind and the only way my dog could have food was if I ordered a full meal for it. I felt really annoyed at their meanness. I had to order a full meal for the dog and throw most of it away as the dog would only eat the meat. I later wrote to the pub and said that since our group had spent in the region of 250 that lunchtime, they could have shown a bit of goodwill and done a couple of sausages for the dog. They didn't reply. I'd been planning to take a second group there, but have decdied I won't take a group there again. I found their behavious mean-spirited.
