The White Hart, Waterloo

I really like this place. Haven't eaten here; but it's a great place to go for a few beers. Good atmosphere, nice decor, good choice of beers. Pricey I guess... but welcome to London!

The Red Lion, Kegworth

This was a pre-arranged stop on our way to an away game at Derby. They opened early for us. Inside it's like a step back in time to a pub from 50 years ago. Small, friendly and decent pub-grub. I enjoyed a few pints of the Harvest Pale. I really enjoyed my visit.

The Duke of York, Elton

We stayed nearby recently and popped in. Just as described below. The elderly lady that runs it was very poorly apparently and so her nephew was manning the bar. Only the tiny room at the back was open and we stood and drank and chatted with the various locals that dropped in. I'm in my 50s - this place reminded me of pubs my old man would have frequented when I was very young. Really unusual but worth cherishing.

The Fox and Hounds, Stony Stratford

This place has been reopen for quite some time. Popular music venue and a reasonable restaurant too. Good pub.

The Crown, Stony Stratford

Unusual and interesting place - as you step in in looks like a typical old school 2 room pub but it's cavernous at the back and upstairs. Went to see a band as part of the 'Stony Live!' festival. Boon Doggle on draft - very nice; only even had it bottled before. My third pint was the last from the barrel and the barmaid only charged me half price for it. Nice touch. Enjoyed the place - quirky and fun.

Shoulder of Mutton, Calverton

Pleasant pub and the staff seemed OK. We had a quick pint on Sunday and came back last night for a meal. Decent pub grub at reasonable prices. Enjoyable.

Champagne Charlie's, Charing Cross

Not a pub, obviously. Not the best Davey House either. Friends and I use the small private dining room for boozy get togethers over a meal; I wouldn't dream of using the place as a boozer. Limited for beers and lagers but good for wine, naturally.

Euston Tap, Euston

Quirky and interesting. I went mid-afternoon, after a business meeting, while waiting for a train. So no hassle with crowds or whatever. Had the Bernards light-lager which was also interesting and hoppy.

I will no doubt return.

The Wavendon Arms, Wavendon

Good pub, albeit very pricey.

Fitzroy Tavern, Fitzrovia

Top boozer.

The Shenley Church Inn, Shenley Church End

Typical carvery pub. Not bad.

The Old Red Lion, Great Brickhill

Nice old village pub.

The Mulberry Bush, Lambeth

It isn't (and could never be) what you would call a local. OK for a few post-work beers though.

Doggetts Coat and Badge, Southwark

Great location wasted on a souless beer factory. Avoid.

The Old Beams, Shenley Lodge

Agree with deliveryman - they've done a decent job of rebuilding this place. Nice large patio by the pond and inside there is now more room by the bar. Have heard mixed views about the food and the menu doesn't look as enticing as previously. However, a nice place to stop for a few beers.

The Black Horse, Great Linford

Went to this place about a year ago and found it very smokey. I much prefer it now. Ate here with the wife a couple of weeks ago and loved the food and service. Decor is nice and it's no smoking. Taking friends back there this weekend

All Bar One, Milton Keynes

Have been mid-week evenings with the missus and it's laid back and pleasant. Went friday night with a friend and it was buzzing! Had a good night (even though I'm a middle aged grumpy). Good choice of lager and wine. I don't drink ales so can't comment on that.

The Burnt Oak, Shenley Brook End

A good local estate pub. They invested in some nice outdoor seating last summer and I tend to go here on warm days and sit outside.

The Swan, Salford

Nice gastro pub. A little pricey I suppose but I enjoyed my lunch there.

The Crooked Billet, Newton Longueville

As a pub - it's OK. But it's primarily famed as a restaurant. Plain setting and furniture which seemed delibrately perverse given the food is eye-wateringly expensive; however, it's really high quality food. The cheese board is to die for. Huge (HUGE!) range of wines, all of which are available by the glass, even the ridiculously priced ones (1000s).

The Old Beams, Shenley Lodge

Recently burnt down. True! Just to save you a trip. Hopefully they will rebuid it - it was pretty good.

Premier Lodge, Furzton

Could be a nice pub - it's right by the lake. But it's a bit functional, if you know what I mean. And the bar staff are, without question, the slowest, laziest species on earth. I've been there several times (reasonable place to go with the family after a bike ride or whatever) and it's always the same - massive queues even when the place is far from busy, while the studenty staff slope about like tree sloths.
