Crate, Hackney Wick

Great location by the Lea. It gets very busy and as others mention it serves some tasty pizzas. Whilst the beer here is good, I think the beer next door in Howling Hops is better.

The Prince George, Hackney

I'm not and most definitely not a hipster, but I have been to this pub a couple of times and I think it's great. A good selection of beer, friendly staff and a tasteful refurbishment. It most definitely not full of hipsters despite what earlier posts state.

The Miners Arms, Carsington

Great pub full of friendly locals. There is a large beer garden out the back for sunny summer days and the place does food, which is generally pretty good.

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham

Yes its on the tourist trail - but this pub is amazing! Great selection of beer and simply incredible interior - a national treasure.

The Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen, Hoxton

Not for the real ale types that use this website, but I think it a decent bar. They host some decent gigs here and there is a relaxed ambience in the bar, I agree that service can be slow as its a popular place. Bar staff are usually reasonably polite though.

Cheers, Regent Street

Glad it's closed - it was awful and the bouncers were idiots.

Jewel/Bar Blanca, Piccadilly Circus

Awful awful place for shallow types to hang out

O'Neills, Leytonstone

Possibly ok for a beer in the day time to watch live sport. Avoid it like the plague on Friday or Saturday night.

The Wilton Arms, Belgravia

Proper locals pub with a good atmosphere and ok selection of beer. Impressive floral displays outside if that's your thing. Also has the footie. Bonus!

The Barley Mow, Shoreditch

I think it's a great little pub. What it lacks in size it makes up in character. It usually has a friendly atmposphere and it has a brilliant juke box full of old classics. Definitely worth a visit.

The Approach Tavern, Bethnal Green

Great pub, cracking atmosphere, a decent outside area for sunny days or smokers! A little bit out of the way, but definitely worth the detour. Oh and its got a decent juke box as well.

Bar Kick, Shoreditch

Great shoreditch bar - almost an institution these days. If you love table football this is the best place to be in London!!

Not one for ale drinkers, but a great concept bar, with a chilled out and friendly vibe.

The Walnut Tree, Leytonstone

This place does seem to be getting better, but ultimately it's a weatherspoons, so you know what you are going to get - good selection of beer, cheap food, but lacking a bit of soul. The Red lion and the north star are better options unless you are really broke.

The North Star, Leytonstone

Cracking back street boozer hidden away in Leytonstone village. They now serve food and also have football on the telly. Usually lively on Friday nights, as they tend to play decent indie music. The locals are friendly - probably the best pub in the area.

The Alfred Hitchcock Hotel, Leytonstone

A decent pub/bar that is underneath the hotel. Has a wooden interior that gives it a slight olde worlde vibe.

I've always found it a friendly place to drink and I believe they have pub quizzes on some week days (which I used to attend years ago). Worth a look.

The Red Lion, Leytonstone

Thank heavens Zulus has gone - The new Red lion is 100 times better. It's got a wide range of beer and a relaxed and friendly vibe - the exact opposite of the obnoxious SAFA types that used to frequent Zulus.
