The Skinners Arms, Kings Cross

This will make you laugh (a bit!). Ordered a glass of Malbec wine. The bartender was new and served it, only to find it wasn't available by the glass on the till. She was told by the staff that only Shiraz, Merlot and Tempranillo ( a miserable offering) could be served by the glass. Having already poured it I said 'firstly, you've got to be the only pub in London not serving this NOW very popular wine by the glass'...and 'don't throw it down the sink' ..'I'll pay for a Merlot and save mindless waste'. But no, down the sink it went bizarrely because one can only buy this wine by the bottle here!! I would add that the choice of Ales was also a bit odd .. with IPAs out numbering real ales by 3-1! It's a nice pub apart from these oddities!

The Dove Inn, Hammersmith

Made a river walk to this pub on a Sunday afternoon. It's a busy place and very foody but has a lovely area outside where you can sit with a view of the river. However, talk about serving short measures. I must admit I have never been served a pint so low down in the glass. I also order half of guinness for my partner - embarrassing! I though the barman was going to come back and top up after taking my money (given that one drink was a guinness) but he just turned his back and ignored me - amazing, Well not if you like short (and expensive) measures!!!

The Shepherds Tavern, Mayfair

Came here the other evening after work and found it relatively quiet at 6pm - you could find a seat on a shared table which was fine. However, out of the possible three ales one was finished and the other two were poor. I had to return the first pint and settled for a London Pride which Fullers would not be happy about given that it was over cooled to hide its poor condition - avoid unless you like larger!
