Trafalgar Freehouse, South Wimbledon

The Traf is now closed for a (sensitive) refurb and should reopen around the end of May.
We are expecting to have support from, and trading agreements with, The Hope in Carshalton. This should make a good range of excellent beers available.
Thanks to Dave for keeping the Traf going all these years, the cricket team will continue! And yes, there will be some Jazz.

10 May 2014 18:27

The Owl, Leeds

Closed by Enterprise when trading well :(

The Anchor Inn, Hartfield

Terrible, terrible beer and awful service. A prime example of why British pubs are closing. An absolute disgrace. The stench of ancient cooking oil only slightly masked by the smell of uncleaned beer lines. they deserve to go bust. Hopefully soon.

The Hope, Carshalton

Our next beer festival "Born to be Mild" will feature 6 milds, weak and strong, light and dark. Plus many other beers. Starts Thursday 23rd May at noon, runs until Saturday. All properly cooled out in our marquee.

*Speaking as the licensee*
6857, we have spoken about this issue before. You seem to take a juvenile delight in being 'the last person in the pub' Every time you are still in ANY pub more than 30 minutes after closing time you are breaking the law and putting the Personal License of the person in charge at risk. As you rarely arrive at The Hope more than 5 minutes before closing time I fail to see how you can fairly comment on the demeanour of the staff. The manager who raised his voice to you gets up for work at 6am and there's certainly no "lock-in piss-up's" after hours.
I'm not saying the staff are perfect, especially at the end of a long shift, but customers need to behave reasonably too.
From a more general point of view, polite, efficient service comes first, being happy is a bonus when we have the time ;)

The Ivy House, Nunhead

The (Closed) Ivyhouse has just been bought by it's customers and supporters and will re-open fairly soon. Well done all!

The Queens Head, St Pancras

Good selection of Ales traditional and modern. Excellent service and good food. With a bit of investment in the building this could be a really excellent pub. At the moment? - Very Good.

5 Mar 2013 07:31

The Stag, Hastings

The Hope, Carshalton

I am currently the DPS at The Hope, so I declare an interest.
The (free) ticket only policy on Xmas and New Year's eve has been in place for 3 years now and signs were up for a fortnight. It is necessary to avoid overcrowding and us breaching our fire safety limit. Sadly, On Xmas Eve, we had to turn away 67 people without tickets.

The law allows for a 'reasonable time' for drinking up. We allow about half an hour, after that the staff will 'encourage' people to leave. Trying to hang around for an hour after time is not reasonable behaviour in any pub.

We aim to provide a safe, comfortable and relaxed environment in The Hope. Sometimes that means there have to be limits, mostly it means we can all hve a good time.

25 May 2010 05:59

The Stag, Hastings

The Stag now carries most of the seasonal and trial ales from Shep's 'Pilot' micro-brewery, plus other occasional guest beers.
I can thoroughly recommend the food, especially the Chorizo stew.
A well run pub that is definately worth a visit.

Well. "Neil the mad" didn't last long, thankfully. Some small improvements, but still way to expensive for what it is.

27 Mar 2009 08:12

The Stag, Hastings

New couple just taken over and a more polite welcome assured :)
now even more 'traditional', but also clean. open regular hours with a good food offering.
Probably as good as a Shep's pub can get, well worth a visit

17 Feb 2009 22:21

The Hope, Carshalton

Kitchen refurb finally about to start! Nice real fire, selection of ales including mild. A proper pub, and one that you can actually take a lady to.

17 Jan 2009 19:08

The Greyhound, Carshalton

Sadly a complete disaster area! Each new manager is worse than the last. Expensive and rubbish how can Youngs do this to a once great pub.

17 Jan 2009 18:58

The Racehorse, Carshalton

Sadly declining and apparently in receivership, but still trading. You can safely go over the road now :)

7 Oct 2008 09:06

The Greyhound, Carshalton

They can't even manage to keep bitter in stock - truly shameful performance all round. What a sad disaster. 2/10

7 Oct 2008 09:02

The Hope, Carshalton

The 3 (so far) hand pumps serve mild, bitter, and strong beer. Harveys being the most regular. The only TV is the CCTV watching the car park :) not yet perfect, but very good. 8/10

7 Oct 2008 08:58

The Windsor Castle, Carshalton

Beer selection pretty good and not tooo expensive. You can hire cottage rooms for parties.

7 Jul 2006 12:43

The Fox and Hounds, Carshalton

Better since the change of landlady, but I can't wait for Spirit to dissapear. Once Punch turn it into a tenancy things should really improve including removing the insulting and stupid screen behind the bar.
It's struggling, but so are most Spirit pubs, Hurry up the changes!!!

10 Feb 2006 10:53

The Rose and Crown, Wallington Corner

Beer has improved, food excellent value.

16 Jun 2005 15:30

Currently dire, dirty and dangerous. Hopefully the 'manager' will get removed soon, because he doesn't!

16 Jun 2005 15:27
