Popped in Wednesday 26 March 2008, to find that the pub has turned into what looks like a big restaurant. The two small front bars have disappeared and been replaced with one larger room set out with laid tables for diners (where were they?).
The larger characterless rear bar is now the only bar, it has been totally re-furbished in what appears to be the new Young's modern dark leather and wood style.
The loss of the two front bars is a real shame, the quieter cosy one in particular was a real gem. One cannot deny that the pub was very overdue for a refurbishment, however a little more sensativity with regards to the pub's heritage could have been executed.
Where do the locals drink now? Up the road I imagine....
The beer, my pint of 'Ordinary' was a very short measure, I asked for it to be topped up. Somebody else in the bar was drinking something very murky, it looking much like a cloudy wheat beer. A quick scan of the pumps suggested that this was not the case - duff pint? Hope he wasn't ill.

The smoking ban has seen this pub refurbished for the better. Now nice and bright, rather then the tired smokey pea souper it once was. Harvey's Best Bitter (a regular guest) was spot on. Nice little garden to sit and watch the ducks swimming past. A good refuelling point when on an extended pub jaunt along the Wey Navigation.

A major improvement on the pre Youngs days. Expensive? About average for the area. The ale is always well kept and you get a full pint, not the more usual half litre (in a pint glass). Service generally pretty quick.

Despite the re-fit and change of name, possibly surprisingly this is still a good pub. Deuchars IPA, Pride & Tim Taylor's Landlord were all presentable. Quick service. Clientele are possibly more upmarket than before its reincarnation, which can either be good or bad depending on social standing.

Popped in late afternoon on Thursday 14th. Surrey Hills ale was on form. It was nice to be offered 'straight or handle' when ordering a pint. My wife enjoyed her wine. Fairly quiet, early days I imagine. I got the feeling that the owners really cared. Will go back.

Visit Saturday 16 Jan. Service quick and pleasant enought. The Winter Warmer was spot on and a proper measure. Gammon sarny was well filled, nice and fresh. Most tables needed a wipe down as did the condiments which looked like they had been in a fight with the ketchup bottle, something that only takes a couple of minutes. A little more care in the that area would be the difference between 'average' and 'good'. Average.

The Coach and Horses, Chertsey
Popped in for a quick pint after a long walk (having never been to this pub before). Stayed for 4. London Pride was dreamy, probably the best 'Pride' in many years - proper measure too, something that is increasingly rare as pints become 'metric' with ever deeper heads designed to deepen the brewery or pubco pockets. Pretty friendly too, with locals quite chatty as was the barman. I think a pub can be as friendly as you want it to be.

It's sad that Hop back Ales have now gone. However, with Marston's/W&D's aquisition of Ringwood, how about some southern beer again - served without sparkler like the Hop back used to be?

One of those rare excellnt pubs. Excellent ale and home cooked quaity food. Brilliant weekly quiz. Very friendly to the tourist like me - and I'm a southerner!

The Jolly Farmer, Weybridge
Hope to see you back in the Good Beer Guide soon! We've been using the JF for well over a decade and have seen many ups and downs (mainly ups). The beer quality since Jim has been in charge is fabulous, it's not often you see 9 out of 10 pints filled with ale these days - that says something.
Ales last night were, Adnam's Best, Butcombe Gold, Ringwood Best, Adnam's Broadside & St. Austell Tribute.
No connections with the pub other than a long standing happy customer. Cheers!
