Popped into this favourite local of mine recently, and was delighted to see that they have had the outside all done up it looks great, and great to see a lanlord so committed to his pub,he tells me that he intends doing a refurb on the inside soon, so look forward to seeing the results, but as always great beer and food on offer, and the athmosphere welcoming as always

The Sun Inn, Coate

Went in here on Sunday for Sunday roast, upon arrival we were greeted by a pleasent young man who brought us to our table and then took orders for drinks whilst we looked at the menu, all good the chap took our order with genuine care and we felt happy, shortly after our food arrived served by a young lady and therafter things went a little pearshaped i.e she served the big bowl of veg etc, but did not have a serving spoon, we had to hunt for mint sauce for our lamb roast but could find any, the young lady never did a check back so we could not ask for any more item, at the end we were given our bill, with out selling up of desserts or coffee which we probably would have ordered if offered to to us so all in all a mixed feeling of our visit, yes the food was good enough and priced just about right, I thinkl if they can up the customer a bit then that would make a huge difference, would I go back, yes probably

will you people get over this critisism of the landlord, the most constructive comment is made by a chap you says that you cannot tell if this guy is drunk or sober, it just his character, at the end of the end day he keeps a bloody good pub, good beer , and excellent food, what more do want, and I for one would prefer to see a landlord with a pint in his hand rather than a bloody j20

The Castle Inn, Ealing

Went in here the other night, and was greeted by a perticularly grumpy barmaid of the australian verity, i thought these people were known for their friendly ways, not this one, was served without a smile, told the amount I had to pay, and was not even thanked, beer was ok though, but because of the barmaid would be reluctant to come back

Steam Railway Co, Swindon

Visited this pub on Sunday 13/05/12, looked friendly enough, was busy for the football,so thought I would have some food as well , FATAL MISTAKE this was without question the worst sunday roast I have ever eaten i..e the meat was grilled not roasted the potatoes were submerged in the most old and filthy oil possible, the vegetables were frozen, and there was some sort of stuffing ball on the plate, which also was appaling , what a shame as the pub itself is OK and actually enjoyed my expierience there but will never attempt to eat here again,
oh and whilst we did attempt to eat the horrible mess,we stayed for another one hour and fifty minutes and the plates were still not cleared from our table, ever do the bartender came twice to clear the glasses.
Stick to what you can do and either give up on the food or get it right

Having no wish to enter into a slagging match with "Bitterman" regarding his last posting, if his comments were not directed at the pub ,staff,or landlord, why did he open his comments with " this pub has been spoilt by the current landlord" equally if he is so familiar with the Vanisttart, then he should know that on occassions Landlords let their hair down and celebrate various events with their customers, its called "cutomer relations" and accordingly should not be critised for one isolated incidence, how can he rate a pub as one of the best in the area, and then slate the Landlord in such a manner, fortuately most pub goers, can decide for themselves the merits of one pub from another,so does not need to rely on derisory comments from anorak websites.

Just read the recent report from "bitterman" , as a local to this pub I have to comment on his views, if he was a true regular to this pub he would know that the music attendence in this pub had been sliding for some time, indeed before the current landlord took over, as indeed was the overall business at this pub, the current landlord is to be congratulated for bringing new and inspiring ideas to the Duke, he introduced a fantastic new Thai menu, was has been getting rave reviews not locally but from further afield, and I know that his decision to give up on the music in favour of food was purely a business descision, which has proved right, and as a local i for one am happy that tranquility has returned to our street on a Saturday night, as for his comments regarding IPA in a pressurised tap he clearly does not know what he is talking about, this is just a new stlye pump from Greene King and serves up traditional beer just like any other pump, is he also that pathetic to be concerned that the bacardi bottle was empty, did he not think that perhaps the barstaff would get a new bottle if needed, our pub do need or want comments of this nature from someone who visits once every six months, perhaps he should recognise that the pub industry is under massive threats and identify good points from inspiring landlords rather that be supe critical all the time, at least he has his name correct in " bitterman " he sounds just like one
