The New Harp Inn, Hoarwithy

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, pleasant decor - in fact quite contemporary, which is unexpected in a country pub.
The food was not cheap, but fairly priced for the quality. The chef was able to explain the provenance of the veg (local farm), eggs (local farm) etc and if the sea was nearer I'm sure the fish would have been locally sourced too. It was a dissapointment to find no local ale, but since all the other pubs in the area have these (and some are a bit average at best) they maybe chose on taste - I can't really complain about a pint of Timothy Taylor.
The Chef was very knowledgeable about the food and described the tastes in detail. An imposingly proportioned chap, I get the feeling that he has tried everything on the menu a good few times and it has led to perfection if the lamb I tried is anything to go by.

Plough Inn, Little Dewchurch

This was an honest, no nonsense place. We didn't eat here during our holiday, it offers food but seems more of a local's place than somewhere to eat, which is reflected in the menu. However, other than needing a good clean, a pleasant enough pub

The Loughpool Inn, Sellack

A very pretty pub, defines the word 'quaint'. In absolute terms to fault it is petty as service was OK (the woman who I presume to be the head waitress was a bit overly characterful though - I'm used to being treated like royalty when I go out - she expected us to treat HER like royalty!), beer alright if slightly too cold and the food was nice though undersized. If the prices were in line with other places in the area I would have rated it higher, maybe a 7. However, the pricing seems to have been determined on the 'what should we charge, then times it by 3' principle. Has apparently been voted pub of the year?

Cottage of Content, Carey

Went here last week for the first time in over three years, whilst holidaying with my wife. She was expecting good things after I had built up her expectations. Unfortunately, it seems to have become a fish and chip takeaway. One local said, glibly, that at least they had bothered to open tonight. My wife has insisted she choses all future venues.
