The Boogaloo, Highgate

A small pub with some great live acts, apparently including such names as coldplay (in their earlier days) and Babyshambles, although im still unsure whether pete doherty is a particularly good feature in your pub. It has a good jukebox and a great atmosphere the few times I have been there.

The Coronation Tap, Clifton

Watch out for the lethal cider, Exhibition, its 12% and far too easy to drink alot of! Generally a good atmosphere although it can get seriously overcrowded at weekends. Worth a try as there are loads of other nice bars in that area if you arent too keen. Still not too sure if the 'students and couples only' sign on the door is serious!

Bar Humbug, Bristol

This is one of the first bars I found myself in when I moved to Bristol and although it is clearly designed as another overpriced wine bar I fell in love with this place because of the fantastic bar staff, great atmosphere and fantastic food. A great jumping off point if you are heading into the city centre.

Alexanders Jazz Theatre Bar, Chester

An intimate 'jazz theatre' tucked away in a small courtyard in the beautifully historic city of Chester, this pub is famous in the city for its alternative comedy nights every saturday, boasting the longest running comedy club outside of London and its yearly Jazz and Blues festival, Its a great place to relax during the day with its huge beer garden running alongside the famous roman walls and hugely enjoyable in the evening with some kind of entertainment provided almost every night ranging from Jazz and Blues bands to Shakespeare. Because of its location Alexanders is one of Chesters best kept secrets, a far cry from the lairy bars in town and thankfully not at all as pretentious as similar places can be.
