The Cove, Covent Garden

Always manage to get a seat or at least a step to sit on, so a favourite in the area for this alone. Good beers, friendly staff, but recently 4.20 a pint. Bit steep.

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

Drank here a couple of times in one week. Superb beers. Excellent black pudding doorstop. Warm fire. What more would you want?

The Bricklayers Arms, Beckenham

Could any let me know who owns this pub / details of the head office? Many thanks.

The Bricklayers Arms, Beckenham

First time at this pub, as it's opposite the cinema in Beckenham. Looked bright and clean, served Harvey's and London Pride.

London Pride stank, and tasted appalling. Politely approached the barman and quietly apologised and suggested that the Pride was 'off'. He looked at a couple sat at the end of the bar, I imagine the owners, who took over. Extremely rude, foul language, they appeared to be drunk. Overheard them say 'they can f off out of here'.

I'll be complaining to the Brewery. Absolutely appalling behaviour.

The Rose and Crown, Elham

Nice beers in beautiful village.

But don't eat here. Had some decent but not great food here previously. Recent visits have been pretty poor. Salty, overcooked, poorly presented and overpriced. The staff are friendly, but not up to serving food and need reminding for coffees, the bill and so on.

Given the current financial unrest, a pub like this really needs to think about it's pricing and quality, or they'll loose more customers. We gave them a chance, we won't be returning.

The Royal Oak, Romney Marsh

Excellent choice of beers, extensive wine list, fantastic service, superb food, nice beer garden.

The Ship Inn, Romney Marsh

The Ship is the best of several pubs in Dymchurch, but given the lousy competition in the village, this isn't saying much.

The pub has recently been taken over by the owners of the Pilot in Dungness and given a complete and welcome overhall both inside and out. It would be great if the carpark could be given a makeover in time, a bit of an eyesore on the approach to the 'nice' and of the village. The Dr. Syn connection has been wisely kept alive and all manner of Marsh and Syn-related artwork adorns the walls.

Two spotless bars, one child-friendly, the other not, and a restaurant area. Large beer garden with plenty of room for kids to run around in.

Adnams and Harveys on tap.

The bar menu reads like something you'd find in a transport cafe, absolutely dire. We had to ask for the restaurant menu for something we would want to eat. On a Sunday, Sunday roast wasn't even available on the bar menu! A complete clanger! The owners need to realise that people's eating habits and expectations of pub-food have changed for the better over the years. Eaten there a few times now: Sunday roast was superb, recent steak was excellent though not cooked to our order, and fish and chips average.

A pub with great promise.

The Red Lion, Snargate

A rare and unique little pub. No food, just beers and ciders. No point trying to describe this gem, just visit.

Botolphs Bridge Inn, West Hythe

Brilliant position beside one of Romney Marsh's many waterways and great views across the fields and expansive Romney Marsh skies from it's small but tidy beer garden. Take a minute to stand on the bridge to look along the waterway, towards the hills (previously the old shoreline) ... a classic Marsh viewpoint. Thoughtfully provided cycle racks beside the beer garden allow cyclists to leave their bikes safely.

Good ales and Old Rosie Cider on draught, with decent wine list.

If you're after a loud night out with a jukebox, this isn't the place for you. The emphasis is definitely on food, and very good quality food. The standard bar menu is fine, and the basics such as lasagne and fish and chips are all there, and very good quality. A daily specials board features fish of the day, locally caught, and changes reguarly.

The Inn acknowledges that you can sometimes wait a while for food, and the service does often appear a little on the slow side. Don't come here if you want a quick in-and-out meal! The food is freshly prepared and well worth waiting for. This is the difference between the frozen rubbish that gets heated up in other establishments.

The staff are polite, friendly and welcoming, reinforced by owners, Mandy and David, who regularly come around the diners giving the place a personal edge that keeps us coming back time and time again.

Best in the area by a long way.
