The Compasses Inn, Salisbury

Lovely pub - hard to find though. Great beers and seriously good food. Venison with junipers and marsala and slow cooked belly of pork with pear chutney - delicious. Friendly staff and landlord. Has accommodation and a little beer garden at the front on a quiet country lane. A real gem worth looking out for.

The Coastguard Inn, St Margarets Bay

Maybe after reading past comments on here the owners have sorted out some previous issues. The staff are very friendly and the food really good - go for the battered cod and chips - seriously good. Service was fine at the bar and they have lots of guest ales to choose from. Really the best reason to go here is the view which is stunning. Also note that mobile phone coverage is poor here and as you are so close to France your phone defaults to french networks - it can be a costly mistake if you make a call to a friend to say what a good time your having.

The Albany, Thames Ditton

You know this place is not as bad as the reviews say. Maybe they have looked at what is said here and have sharpened up a bit. The staff were attentive and friendly and were very efficient. Dave who appears to be the subject of some critisism from previous reviews was smiling and helpful. The Timmy T was nice on tap and they stock FeverTree tonic for a brilliant G and T. With regard to the food however I would say that each dish is overpriced by at least 2.00 and the wine by 4.00 per bottle. That said each dish we had was good rather than exceptional and the place was packed all day.

The Duke of Cumberland, Henley

Under new ownership since July 2007. Great selection of real ales. Fantastic food - really excellent such as 7 hour slow cooked belly of pork, with creamed cabbage - amazing cracking and chunky home made apple sauce. Lovely cheese board for afters too. The hospitality is fantastic very relaxed atmosphere, but attentive to your needs. The Garden is the star here. Amazing views, plenty of space and pretty trout ponds throughout. I really think you will find it hard to beat on views, food and service.
