The Wishing Well, Peckham

An unusual place ! - served as the boozer in the film version of Last Orders (with Michael Caine's and Helen Mirren's Butcher shop - now Lucius & Richards, a deli - gentrification in action), filmed in Bellenden Road, but only the exterior was used. Decorated inside in a deep Victoriana/tarts boudoir style with old masters on the walls and curiously dressed bar staff. Very good, and increasingly rare original c1880 bar fittings, although they ruined the exterior of the pub by replacing the sash windows with plastic a few years ago - the fools.....

The Gowlett Arms, Peckham

Just shows you that good friendly management can be the key to a good pub. Not much has been done (or needed to be) to the interior, but customers are made to feel welcome, and the pizzas are very good. Nice beer garden too.... well done !

Hoopers, Camberwell

If you enjoy a noisy and scary drink with extras from Mad-Max and Vicky Pollard's teenage mates, then this is the pub for you ! Well overdue a bit of t.l.c. and a makeover - How can any pub chain miss the opportunity to operate a successful local pub in such a gentrified area ? Tis a mystery....
