The Barmy Arms, Twickenham

I was treated absolutely disgustingly by the staff. I was in Twickenham shopping with my boyfriend and fancied a bite to eat and a drink. Asked at the bar for a food menu and whilst looking at the menu one young girl behind the bar interjected and asked how old we were. On answering that we were 18 (we will be 19 in a few months) she told us that we would not be served as we were under 21. No apology, explanation or sympathetic words. We hadn't even ordered drinks and are more than happy to supply ID. We were totally embarrassed and went to another pub where we had a meal and drink with no problem whatsoever. If we had been with a group of 20 students on a pub crawl after an exam you could understand but this was totally disgusting. My father who chairs a real ale society and who had recommended the pub can only believe that the Barmy Arms wishes to lose trade. He will now be recommending a boycott of this establishment from his society and as many contacts as he has in Twickenham. Since when was it acceptable to ban under 21s? A pub would be in serious trouble if it tried to ban entry based on colour, creed, race, sexuality or even an upper age limit, so why should responsible drinkers over 18 be treated is this way?
