The North Star, Hounslow

Presumably the Ginger Prince got lost on his way to Richmond and stumbled on the North Star. More energetic and passionate governors in Paul and Jo you are not likely to find. The beer is well kept and if you stay for any time you'll be offered the house special Sambuca. Quite what 'right wing' clientele means I'm not sure, but in the North there exists a mix of all creeds and cultures. Special events are plentiful and the nights there colourful. It might not be the ignition point of the workers revolution, but unlike other pubs it does actually contain working people with their own distinctive, illuminating and relevant views on society. Pubs are about working people relaxing and conversing, not 20 types of Merlot, lobster bisce and progressive jazz.

The Shire Horse, Hounslow

Funnily enough not many working class pubs in under invested sub-urban areas tend to be overtly Marxist in their outlook. However, if you look a little past a vanguard view you will find the Shire Horse full of honest, interesting characters. The makeup is multicultural and the atmosphere incredibly trusting and friendly, if initially wary. No real ale is it's biggest failing, but a good pint of Guiness and a plentiful array of fizzy stuff compensates. Added to this the pub has a history of charitable donations and offers the community the sponsorship of a sunday football team. Dissenters are probably best to stay in Islington or Muswell Hill for their reviews. As this socialist is proud to call the Shire Horse his local.
