The Rising Sun, Tarporley

I cannot understand how this pub manages such a large menu! But they have a *vast* menu of food items, and all of the ones I've sampled have been well done and not expensive. This is good-quality pub food, not "fine dining", but all the better for that- there are enough pretentious places in the vicinity.

The beer is good and reasonably priced, the ambiance is warm (especially when there's a fire going) and it's altogether a nice place to be, especially when it's cold outside.

My favourite pub in Tarporley village, not least because the young shouty element go elsewhere!

Travellers Rest, Alpraham

An unspoilt gem. No concession to anything but beer- no music, no fruit machines, no food other than snacks and crisps. But good beer, well kept, and friendly, unpretentious customers and staff.

Outside toilet (boasting nesting swallows in the summer), bowling green, garden.... and beer at 1990s prices!

Deservedly on the CAMRA register of unspoilt pubs- see it now while you can.

Davenport Arms, Tarporley

Currently closed for business, I understand. No-one knows for how long.
