The Compasses, Holbrook

Came here some time ago for a family meal. Good ale but the meal was a shambles. We had been asked to come at a particular time to avoid a large group of rambles who had booked. We ordered some fairly basic pub food and the main course took about an hour and a half. They were short staffed and had one man running the bar and restaurant on his own (who was very apologetic for the poor service throughout) . Despite the open admission of terrible service he still had the cheek to charge full price! Unfortunately the bill payer just paid - I would not have paid it!

The Freston Boot, Freston

Surprised by some of the other comments. I have been several times and found the range and quality of the ale to be good (both draft ale and bottled beers). Food is excellent, although a little on the pricey side. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

The Woolpack, Ipswich

Always liked this pub on my occasional visits. Popped in on Sunday and they had four ales on and the food looked good too. Unfortunately I didn't get to sample either. I stood at the bar for a while waiting to be served, and it was fairly busy, but I gave up when continually ignored. Three people came to the bar after me (all on first name terms with the staff) and were served straight away whilst I stood waiting. Shame as otherwise it was quite impressive.
