The Boat House, Chertsey

I'm originally from North Wales, now living in Surrey, and my parents regularly use the Boathouse hotel and restaurant when they are visiting. Our opinion is that it's never been worth getting excited about, but has always been fit for purpose. The food has been reasonable and the beer ok, and its setting really works in its favour. Very recently, however, I turned up for a quick meal with my partner and was left disappointed. The food quality was poor and sparse, and it gave the impression of being microwaved in a hurry. This wasn't great as the food was hardly cheap! By far the most disappointing, perhaps even angering aspect, revolved around the final bill. I'd only been charged for one round of drinks, rather than the two I'd had. With an honest heart, I pointed this out prior to paying. The barman was grateful and told me I could have them on the house for being honest. This was nice. However, a week later I've checked my bank statement to find two separate transactions - one for the meal and first drink round, then another for the second round of drinks I was told were on the house. Not only is this downright cheeky, but given I gave no authorisation for this second transaction, I'm not even sure it's legal. I won't be returning to this venue.
