The Ostrich Hotel, Robertsbridge

Everybody who lives in the village knows that Tony's beer-keeping is sloppy at the best of times. You can occasionally get a good pint, like back in 1997 one Sunday I seem to remember I even had a head on my beer. No matter how politely you inform him that you caught a whiff of vinegar as soon as you lifted the glass up towards your head he will disagree and forever hate you, and probably even bar you. (He's barred about 15 thousand people in his time here - great marketing Tone, and what a charming wife!)

One great thing is the cheese and onion rolls!

The Salehurst Halt, Robertsbridge

Probably the best pub for miles around. As welcoming to visitors as it is to locals. There's a large terrace and garden, (wood-fired oven in the making!!), so if you insist on bringing your noisy kids to the pub you can keep them away from the locals around the bar - thank you!

Food can be changeable. That said, I had one of the best Thai curries I have ever had the other week, you could taste all the individual spices - magnificent. Pizzas are popular and will be great when the oven is complete.

Very friendly place and as far as the beer is concerned, the natural spring which runs through the cellar helps keep the Harveys bang-on all year round. This pub has always been known for the beer and Gareth, the bar manager takes pride in his work. Always a couple of other ales on offer.

If you haven't been to the Halt, you haven't been to Robertsbridge!

Seven Stars Inn, Robertsbridge

They look after the beer in this pub, and its a genuine "local". Great atmosphere on occasions when all of your mates are in there, although this might seem a little intimidating to visitors. lean on the bar and talk to people and you will be surprised how friendly they are despite their sometimes ferral looks, tattoos and football shirts.

Its just changed/changing hands, so farewell to Foxy and Lisa, and good luck and welcome to the new couple!

Watch this space for an improvement in the menu too, although the Sunday roasts have always been extremely popular - jam packed and sold out all the time!
