The Priors Oven, Spalding

The Prior's Oven is a great addition to the local real ale scene. There are usually five or six ales available; all in top condition. They are mostly from local micros and tend to feature a mix of light and dark beers. In the five times I've been there I've had ales from Austendyke, Tydd Steam, Star, J. Church, Elgoods and Hopshackle. If you aren't in the mood for ale real cider is also available.

When I've visited (at midday) there was usually a small crowd of friendly people chatting away and on the one occasion it was empty the landlord provided the conversation.

If you want keg beer, lager or meals then this isn't the pub to go for but if you want a great variety of top quality real ale in friendly surroundings this is the pub to go to in Spalding.

The Alexandra, Penzance

A great place to get beer from local micros when visiting Penzance, there always seems to be a few from Skinners and one or two from other local breweries , I had an excellent brew from the new Coastal Brewery when I visited last month. Well worth the walk out from the town centre.

The Star Inn, Crowlas

This is a great pub for real ale fans visiting the far South West, there are always five* beers on of varying styles from around the country, mainly from micros, all in ideal condition. I can't wait to visit again when their brewery is up and running.

*From Coastal, Jolly Boat, Boewolf, Marston's, and Wolf on my last visit.
