Grosvenor, Caversham

Nice place for a quiet drink. It has always surprised me (as a dad of two), considering its location in the middle of a residential area with lots of affluent young families, that it has no facilities for children (and a sign to tell you as much). Surely it'd make a killing doing family weekend lunches. It's a massive building too, with plenty of scope for a family room/area and a bit of playground kit out the back.

The Stables, Betws-y-Coed

If you're visiting Betws then be aware that this is the only pub in the village apart from the hotel bars. It's a functional place mainly frequented by tourists without much atmosphere. The staff are pretty impersonal but very efficient - food arrives and tables are cleared quickly. Food is OK but nothing special (my chicken curry was padded out with loads of mushroom and onion) and not particularly cheap.
