The Rugglestone Inn, Widecombe in the Moor
Came for lunch on a typical Dartmoor summers day - cold, windy and drizzly but the pub was busy, if a little chilly. (can't they light fires in August?) Excellent pub and one of my faves but not perfect. 3 beers, Exmoor, Butcombe (Somerset) and Tribute (Cornwall). Living in Somerset as i do where all 3 of those are common as muck I was a tad disappointed that none of the 40 or so Devon breweries where represented, hence a miserly 8/10. Food portions are big - beware!

Came here not expecting much as the pub had been dying a slow death prior to closure. Was surprised and impressed by what has happened since, 4 ales (Otter bright, Exmoor Ale, Moor Revival and Cottage Whippet) plus good food. Keep it up Canal! Needs passing trade to survive as village is a collection of 4 or 5 houses on A378.

The Crown Inn, Fivehead
Oh dear, what a difference a year makes. We were the only people in the pub, albeit on a night of an England football match. 4 beers on, Cornish jack (had gone sour) Tribute, Cheddar potholer and Exmoor (Antler - also sour). 4 beers on and no customers = a lot of vinegar. Take 2 pumps at least off and beer quality will rise again. Still potentially a lovely pub.
