The Horns Lodge, South Chailey

I have driven passed this pub many times but we decided to try it after seeing that they had won a local CAMRA award. Quite a traditional country pub feel to it when you get in, I suspect it is nice and cosy in winter. Four real ales on, some of which were new to me but I was offered tasters before deciding and all the ales were in excellent form. Very much a traditional pub fayre menu, but mostly looked to be home made and was sensibly priced. it was quite busy so the service was a bit slower than it could have been but the staff were very friendly and when the food came it was good. I will definitely not be driving passed so often in the future.

The Kings Head, Lewes

Having heard good things about the Kings Head we tried a meal there recently. It has changed a lot since the new owners took it over and have 'modernised' it. The decor was quite stylish but not particularly to my liking. I drank Harveys which was in fine condition. Despite the feeling of being rather gastro, the food is quite well priced. The main complaint both my wife and I had was that the meals we had had been very heavily salted and this spoilt the meal considerably. Maybe we were unlucky, but all in all I don't think I would return. Fortunately for the owners others seem happy with it becasue it waas busy even though it was mid-week.

The John Harvey Tavern, Lewes

Busy, well known Lewes pub. Harveys beers straight friom the barrel, which are generally in good nick. We have eaten here opn a number of occasions with mixed results, sometimes rather good other times a bit disappointing. Nice little sun trap searting out front.
