The Endeavour, Whitby

Stumbled on this place late one Friday night whilst visiting Whitby for the weekend. What a find! The folk music I can take or leave but the extensive spread of handpulls from all over GB (including Harviestoun Old Engine Oil which I adore) was most impressive. Full but not crowded, friendly and warm atmosphere in a gem of a tavern.

The Three Horseshoes, Leyburn

Don't bother going back for the Wensleydale beer, Oldboots. I went there yesterday and after enquiring about it was informed that it had not been the brewery tap for some 18 months. About time they removed the signage then! Decent pub apart from that faux pas, though.

The Watermill Inn, Ings

This place is turning into Crufts - fine if you're into the smell of wet dog while you're eating but this wonderful pub's dog-friendly policy is now getting out of hand. I've lost count of the number of fights, snarls and bark-fests I've had to sit through recently (don't come here if you want to read your Sunday paper in peace). Some of these owners have no shame whatosever. Don't get me wrong, I love this place and visit several times a month - it keeps the best cellar in the area if not the country (I travel a lot) - but enough with the dogs, please!!
