De Garre, Bruges

I didn't realise that, despite frequenting this place a number of times in the past, I have never posted a review of the place. As others have so eloquently stated this gem of a bar just off the main square in Bruges is a must visit when visiting the city. This is one of my favourite drinking establishments in Europe (along with the refectory at Andechs Monastery and the Augustinerkeller in Munich). What a refreshing change to have a relaxing beer while listening to classical music in such wonderful surroundings. Just about perfect.

The Upin Arms, Reading

Only noticed the change last night as I was walking past so decided to call in. As others have pointed out it is pricey (considering its less than salubrious location) but the beers I tried (Brain's Dark, Skinner's Pennycomequick and Purity Pure Ubu) were all in pretty good nick. I haven't tried the food yet but will certainly give it a go at some point as the menu looks varied and interesting.

Grog and Gruel, Fort William

I've been a bit tardy in adding my comments about this place. I called in after completing the West Highland Way on 29 May this year and found the beer and the atmosphere most welcoming. Like others I can't comment on the food, as I didn't have any. Whether this convivial atmosphere was due in part to the large number of walkers in the pub, many of whom I'd already met en route, I don't know, but as others have mentioned the bar staff were helpful and efficient, particularly as the place was packed to the rafters. On my visit there were 6 well kept ales on offer - Fraoch, Black Gold, Crofter's Pale Ale, Red Cuillin, Brewhouse Special and An Teallach, which appears to be a staple judging by previous comments. In conclusion this is a fine pub supplying an interesting range of beers, which is well worth a visit.
