The Lord Nelson, Cheam

Popped in for Sunday lunch yesterday. First impressions fairly friendly community pub, I'd say on a similar scale to the Nonsuch Inn up the road. Could see on the wall that it has regularly evening entertainment. Am sure this is a pub that would be a good visit for a pint, but my food experience was disappointing. My wife and I ordered a chicken roast. I asked why my portion was so small - apparently they're pre-portioned (so cooked, frozen and warmed up again on site).
The chicken certainly didn't have that fresh cooked taste. Potato's were of the cheap oven cooked variety, slightly worse than Aunt Bessie's. I wondered how a pub could serve food of this quality in this day and age where food sales are the main revenue generating product, but there you go. Next time, either I'll try and get in earlier to the Nonsuch Inn, which I've had terrific experiences at - or the HG Wells.

The Watchman, New Malden

terrific refurb, now more reason to go out to new malden for a crawl. always a great selection - i agree with the review about a decent pint of Brains SA. i normally crack on with the greene king ipa which is a great value tipple - and at a low volume that doesn't create hangovers the next day.

The H G Wells, Worcester Park

surprised only a few reviews of this place - normally a good range of ales available including landlord, directors and pride. food top notch, not cheapo, but it's definitely worth the few quid extra.
they normally have some sort of live music on a saturday (we accidentally stumbled onto a freddie mercury tribute which was fun as hell). overall, top pub, wish it was a bit closer as it's one of the top establishments in the area.
