The Boat Inn, Cromford

Handy for the legendary Scarthins bookshop.

The beer is well kept, however there is a general grubbiness about the place and I would agree about the pervading smell of dog.Not sure I would want to eat here.

The Beltane Cafe Bar, Buxton

Unusual but consistently good little cafe/bar on the steep hill from the Crescent to the Market place.
Always a range of interesting beers on offer with reasonable lunchtime food. Now our place to stop for a quick couple after a show at the nearby Opera House.

The Packhorse Inn, Bakewell

Less than a mile from the Peak District tourist hotspot of Monsal Head, this has always been a small friendly, pokey little country pub.

Subject to a recent change of management which has been entirely for the better. The bar has been moved maximising the limited space available in what is essentially three small connected rooms. The food is well prepared and good value, with three decent ales on offer the last night I was in, including two from Thornbridge Brewery which is only a couple of fields away.

A much better option than the overpriced, packed Monsal Head Hotel and the two rather bland Robinsons' houses down the hill in Great Longstone
