The Royal Oak Inn, Meavy

Just got back from a week in Dartmoor and revisited this pub on the basis of the info that children are allowed. ITS TRUE!!! kids can go in one of the bars but not the other, but in fact it was such a lovely day we all sat outside and had a brilliant lunch with a great glass of Jail Ale. Warm welcome, what a pleasure. I'm upping my rating.

The Royal Oak Inn, Meavy

I agree that the food and beer here were great last time I visited, however that hasn't been for about 6 years as that's how long it's been since we haven't been allowed in with children! Can't understand this very blinkered attitude, especially in a national park tourist area.

The Plume Of Feathers, Princetown

This used to be such a brilliant pub, with fantastic food and drink and a really welcoming feeling about it. Their syrup sponge pudding with clotted cream was better than........! Then it got sold a few years ago and taken over by new people who seemed to have more sophisticated plans. Result? A posh (pretentious) menu full of stuff you don't want after a walk on the moor, and a far less welcoming feeling. We drink at the Prince of Wales now - food there isn't as good as it used to be at the Plume, but it's much the better bet now. NB we last went to this pub Easter 2008, so if there's been a radical improvement since then, I'll take it all back with great pleasure, and I'll give an update after this Easter!
