Beer and food average, staff seemed very disinterested.

On the one hand they have got some decent ales and the food wasn't bad.

But.... 5pm on a Sunday evening. There is no one at all at the bar except me and three friends. There were (at least) three staff on. We weren't served for at least ten minutes. I wonder what it's like when they are busy.

last day of holiday in weymouth and found the best pub!! typical!.. great value for money excellant steaks and the service was refreshingly quick.. we stayed and listened to the music ( Shooter) brilliant atmosphere highly recomended for a safe and "yob" free enviroment

had a pint in here and i was impressed that the barmaid had eliminated the need for conversation during service as she didn't say a word. just stared at me with folded arms until i told her i wanted a guiness please. even then she looked like the effort would kill her. this place is characterless and smells a bit funny.

To the loneserver to help combat the stink of chips, serve beer not food. Last time I visited it was quicker getting a meal than getting a pint. No one interested in pulling pints, just grabbing profits from the food trade.

To truckerphil, the toilets and smell of chip fat were far less noticeable when people were allowed to smoke in the PUB. It's quite OK for you to pollute the environment with your truck's diesel fumes, but it's horrendous to have a fag in your local.

Of course, it is no longer the remit of pubs to serve a decent pint of ale now, only to act as restaurants, serving meals to tourists. Just wait until some clever bugger at the BMA invents passive cholestoral, then you'll be allowed to serve food in restaurants or pubs. No fags......no food......what next? No beer.

Called in this weekend, and to my suprise it was pleasant no smell of the toilets, no smell of the chips apart from when we walked in the aroma of fresh food, which was quite pleasant. Well done theloneserver it seems you have done a good job so far.

P.S.
the bar staff on friday night were very quick dispite the amount of people in they always served me quickly.
Well done

A lot of people touch on the fact that the bar smells of chip fat. This is probably down to the fact that we have an open style kitchen and the fryers are about 2 behind the back bar, add in the heat and humidity and you have a unpleasant environment to work and visit. We have tried to overcome this problem with improved and better maintained extractor fans in the kitchen and changing the fryer oil daily rather than every 3 days. If you can think of anyother ways to help us overcome this problem please post your ideas here.

I have recently returned to bar work after a long absence from being behind a bar. I know that The Excise House needs a lot of work to bring it back up to scratch but I am trying. I have had to spend a lot of my time improving the back of house procedures and unfortunately none of that I visible to the customers. However I am now ready to combat front of house problems and I am asking anyone here on what they would like see and have sorted out.

Only good thing that has happened to his pub is No Smoking

This must be a different pub that I have been to.
Thbar stinks of stale chip fat and urinal's.
The toilets in this place are discusting and they should not be allowed to serve food. The pub should be shut down and compleatly referbished and then people would use it again.

If you want good food and beer in hope square go over the road th the red lion BRILL pub.

I love this place,in a lovely setting just off the harbour with excellent food ,in a seperate eating area, and a good selection of beers at the bar that isnt over priced but its crowning glory is its live music.(look out for splinter!)
This place gets real busy at the weekends but the atmosphere is great and non threatening. It boasts an electronic bowling alleys and bar football in an adjoining area so great for the family as well.Staff are non-too-tardy at serving, even on busy nights. The locals love it so what better recommendation can you get.

Good pint of Weymouth JD 1742 from local Dorset Brewery based in Brewers Quay, so essentially the Brewery Tap. Pub smells of stale chip fat which is a shame, but there is an outside drinking area

Top class pub, friendly staff, reasonable prices, bowling alley is great! Excellent live music, especially the Jam Tarts that are there every thursday.
