user reviews of Thomas's Bar, York

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Was drawn here by the building and the crowd that seemed to be enjoying theirsleves.

Bar one side, pub grub the other.

4 ales on the pumps, all being local offerings

Faux traditional in a chain pub type of way but it sort of works....lots of English memorabilia, great to see as a lot of pubs don't like showing this side.

Decent place, not outstanding but it's worth a stop on the way to the station.

Visited on 15/05/12 on a trip to York after buying a cocktail voucher on Living Social. Great cocktails, great attentive service and handy location. Food looked lovely and well priced although we didnt eat there. Would definitely recommend!

Hello everyone, I would just like to inform you all that Thomas's of York has re-opened in February 2012.
It is now an independent pub serving quality British Food with a warm and friendly atmosphere.

We have a late licence and are open late every Friday and Saturday night serving a good range of drinks including the World Famous Sarah Hughes cask ale which will be hard to find anywhere else in York.

We look forward to welcoming you to Thomas's of York.

Thank you

This pub has now closed. The Phoenix from the flames has been given the name of Mojhito's (spelling to be conformed), which claims to be a bar / mexican restaurant. They had Leeds United's Johnny Howson to open it this week. Yet to visit myself.

Called in with 3 friends last night at 9.30pm. There was one other customer in! The only guest ale was Black Sheep. Had 3 halves and one of Kronenbourg but the unfortunate one of us was charged 7 !! Didn't find this out until we'd left and I tried to ring today to check on their bar prices, seeing as 7 is exceedingly expensive if correct. The number is presently unobtainable!!

A pity this, seeing as the interior is reasonably spacious (over two floors) and no without a certain appeal. Don't know if JOSIE 1969's family are still there but whoever is in charge needs to be somewhat more competative in a city packed full of popular bars and pubs.

A pub with a lot of potential. Only been in a two or three times over the last year. Sadly, nearly always empty. Just feels unloved - there was a mop and bucket next to the seating when I was last in. Hope someone makes an effort with it.

A more than decent pint of Old Speckled Hen in a really drab environment. 5 out of 10 then. My wife tells me this place used to be good back in her student days (late 90s), you wouldn't believe it now!

Could be about to close as it's had 3 management teams in it since the owning company went into receivership. Taking the jukebox out was never a good idea and the no smoking room looks like it's not been touched in months. Will make a very profitable business for someone with vision and a spare few grand.

Lovely pub but my only problem is the real ale never changes, but I must admit the Black Sheep Bitter is always spot on.

Getting better in the last 8 months or so, getting more people in and the beer is far better than it has been in a long time.

Called in for a couple knowing that football was on the plasma screen, shame they only have 2 real ales, John Smiths cask and Black Sheep was quiet on sunday afternoon will return.
