Visited this pub in late 2012. Bar staff were friendly as were the locals. There was good band were playing but the pub seemed a little small once they setup luckily it wasn't raining and the garden felt a good option. The beer and cider was of small choice.

First pub I came to when I visited last Saturday to watch York City v Bath City.

When you live in Bath you get used to overpriced pubs and this was no different, espacially the name and the tacky interior. Apparently there is a Roman Bath museem in the basement.

No real ales so I payed 3.00 for a pint of Strongbow. That's more expensive than in Bath!!!

having been around york as a tourist for many years i have always gone into the roman bar during the day for a meal with my partner and always found the staff very pleasant and the drinkers very easy going, that is between the hours of 1 oclock and 5 o clock.but last week i went to york with 3 guys from work for the racing having travelled from glasgow the previous day they asked me to give them a tour of the precinct in york, our ages varied from 39,42, 51 and 55,i took them to the roman bar(friday 9th july 2010)i could not have done any better than this if i tried the bar war was jumping and the music by DSQ was the best band we had heard for years, the locals were chatty interacted with us on a drinking spree,my mates could not believe how lively our race weekend had become, we will be back next year without adoubt welldone to all at the roman bar, joe.

Beer garden at rear is handy if you have dogs and want a break. Water bowl available and pleasant staff.

The "entertainment" is slightly better than the beer. Avoid.

Looks ok outside, interesting view of the roman remains under glass at your feet. I felt very uncomfortable in there, as though I was totally unwanted. Very sinister. I hope it's changed recently

Went in on a Friday night, had a live covers band which created a good atmosphere. Fairly small pub, looking a bit grotty but good for a swift half!

The Roman Bath underneath the pub is well worth a good look. Really makes you wonder at the marvel of Roman knowhow. The pub, however, is a different story. Serves John Smith cask ale which is enough for me to steer clear. Good thing is that there are a few better pubs (Last Drop, 3 Cranes, Olde Starre) in easy walking distance.

A local / tourist based city centre pub. Can have the feeling of a bit of a boozer, but ok in the evenings, and occasionally very good live music.

Pretty dire interior and relatively unremarkable in all other ways except there was once a hugely muscled man whom literally punched himself across the table and off his chair in a drunken challenge to himself. Can only assume he was some sort of 'jock'.

Beer - average.

Underground archaeology - top class.

Recommended for - proximity to taxi rank/curry house come going home time.

Carefull in here on an afternoon, some very dodgy giro abusers frequent the place.

Nice accommodation on the first floor - and an impressing breakfast (lasts all day). Friendly staff, but don't go here if you are looking for real ale!
