Wingfield looked like a very nice village. But this pub which is in the current Good Beer Guide is now closed and up for sale. It doesn't look as if it will become a pub again anytime soon.

Consistently great beer (local and varied ales) and food, beautiful pub, worth the hunt to find Wingfield if out and about!

Brilliant pub! Takes a bit of finding but well worth the effort. The interior is suberb and the current landlord was very welcoming. Highly recommended.

Visited on 19th and 20th Feb and enjoyed the vibe in the one small bar that was open. Apparently a new tenant should be moving in in March and it is being temporarily managed until then. Good crowd of locals, wonderful open fire and welcoming landlord with excellent Adnam's Bitter & Woodforde Wherry on tap. No food in evidence but a generous range of Sunday lunchtime bar snacks provided. Looking forward to going back in the summer to find it still open....

Visited on 29th January 2011 and it was open again. Modern furnishings inside and welcoming staff. Three ales on (two Adnams and a guest). Food looked quite pricey but I don't know what it was like.

After a recent change of hands, approx 6 months ago, this pub has now shut.
Contrary to Smithjones' review below, the food was far too expensive given the competition in the area.
Billywitch had a point, not that it matters now. I just hope that it re-opens in the not too distant future.

Lovely restaurant had a great night. Staff efficient, welcoming and accommodating. Food delicious and inexpensive good variety on menus. Decent selection of beers and wines. Would recommend

Thinks too much of its self. Beer quality variable. Food expensive. Gone down hill under present management.

Very nice pub set with pleasant, undulating countryside with good views of the church opposite. Pleasant in winter with a large roaring fire in the bar, also pleasantly cool in warm summer evenings.
Beer generally good quality, with the occasional mini beer festivals providing interesting alternatives to the generic Adnams Best, house wines dissapoint though. Also has cider and lager on tap.
Food used to be okay, but a recent change in the kitchen staff has reputedly improved the standards of the food, though prices are certainly at the higher end of pub grub range.
Staff, though young and slightly inexperienced, are welcoming and the service at the bar is generally swift.
Overall; a very good pub to while away a lazy, sunny afternoon or to warm up after a chilly and wet autumnal walk. Note; the pub is in the middle of nowhere so, unless you�re local, you�ll be needing a car and preferably a driver too.

Previously closed for 2 years, now reopened as a freehouse serving traditional homemade farmhouse cooking with locally sourced ingrediants and a fine selection of real ales and wines.
No Smoking throughout
