Fantastic real ale pub in the heart of West Bridgford. I think it is owned by the Castle Rock brewery, and as such had a couple of Castle Rock ales on including Elsie Mo. Loads of other beers, but the ones I noted were Yamato from the Newby Wyke Brewery based in Grantham, Wadworths Horizon and my favourite Opal Wheat from The Beer studio in Salford, Manchester. This pub has a "U" shaped bar with the area very much given over to standing, but then another large room at the back with tables. Although I didn’t eat the food looked really good as well. With it's location it is a haunt of Forest and County football fans on match days, and I'm sure Cricket supporters in the summer months... On my last visit Forest were at home, so I nearly choked on my beer at all those Red scarves as I am an avid Leicester City fan... (Oh well, with Forest struggling in the championship and City at the lofty heights of topping the Premier league I guess I can allow them a few drinks on there way to another defeat!). Seriously though - A very good pub and highly recommended.

No doubt about it, this is a proper English pub.
Called in here a couple of years back when I was staying in Nottingham for my daughter's wedding. The hotel we were in had no cask beers so I looked for the nearest pub and this was it. My mum, my wife and I walked to The Haven and when we walked through the door they were stunned at how basic it was. I think they were a bit scared it might be a rough house. I reassured them that with the selection of beers on offer this was a place where people were more interested in what they drank and the quality of it than how much of it they managed to gulp down. I told them rowdy behaviour was unlikely but that good natured fun was probably guaranteed. With seats at a premium we found a spot at the bar and propped it up for a couple of hours. It was quite noisy but with lots of conversation, not shouting or loud music. All the beers we tried were on form, the bar staff and other punters were polite and friendly. I got both my mum and wife drinking pints of proper beer and thoroughly enjoying it. They both loved the evening saying it was a great experience. My mum especially, she'd got to her 80's without experiencing the wonderful range of flavours that you can get from malt and hops.

Good pub - well kept beers with a great choice of real ales, as well as choices for lager drinkers. They always have Castle Rock's Harvest Pale (well, other than when there was a world shortage!) and run a loyalty scheme for free beer ...
The food is really good with several innovative vegetarian chouices everyday. Not bad prices either.
Gets a bit much if there are games at the Forest ground or at the Cricket ground, but that's usually quite short-lived.
Don't park in the Co-op car park for too long - they put pricey tickets on the cars! Other than that, a good time to be had at teh Stratford.

Nice and quiet on a Saturday afternoon. Great selection of CR brews and guests. Excellent cheese & onion butty freshly made. Can't fault it really. I suspect that would all change if the cricket was on......

Typical Tynemills pub, Excellent

Very very good beer , no question, typical Tyne mill, great beer but can take itself a bit seriously.
At busy times with the lack of soft furnishings and due to the large number of punters it gets impossibly loud, as to become unpleasant and impossible to find a seat, Possibly spoiled by its popularity. The comments about the service are very true, there seem to be "dead zones" (tip i found half way down before you go through to the back bar to be best as the bar staff congregate here) However earlier in the week and at less popular times, possibly Tynemill's best outlet.

Proper pub, proper beer and very good service! no shell suits, gold chains or alcopops either just a good friendly pub with a happy atmosphere. excellent choice of real ales could have quite happily stayed all day to sample them all, but unfortunately the footy got in the way, but we did pop back in after for a few swift ones for the road!

Excellent ale house with 13 to choose from, including four or so from the local Castle Rock brewery. Best pub I found during a long weekend in Nottingham.

This is a pub of 2 halves. Great range of Ales including a number from Castle Rock, Burton Bridge, Batemans plus Summer Lightening - about 10 in total. I had pints of Castle Rock Harvest Pale and Burton Bridge Golden Delicious - both superb. The bad half is the food - we had Sunday lunch and it was pretty vile. Still this is Beer in the Evening, not Lunch on a Sunday, so will still give them a 7. But they could do with simplifying the menu and maybe doing a few things well. Otherwise stick to some great beer. And by the way sounds from previous comments as if service can be mixed but friendly and efficient today.

Excellent pint, not tried the food

This has to be the best real ale pub in Nottingham in my opinion. The manager there, John, has to be one of the best cellarmen in the business. He has a great personality, and knows how to keep a cask. I recommend this to anyone who can get to the area!! Fantastic job guys.

Beer-drinkers pub, with usual high Tynemill standards; I think beer was a notch down on a previous visit, but still worth a detour.

If there was a 'most miserable bar staff award' then this place would win it every year. The beer is good and cheap however. As for the food...the lights of West Bridgford must dim when they're busy given the number of microwaves in use. The food isn't bad though...but pricey. All in all what could be a great pub is just...a pub...nuff said.

Excellent wide range of beers, friendly pub, drinking inside or out, extensive food menu too if wanted, only 20 mins walk from Nottingham station.

The staff can be a bit sniffy - can be reluctant to serve and regularly develop `selective hearing`. Might be something to with their age (they are very young and probably don`t know any better. perhaps they think it `uncool` to offer unfussy service).

The beer is, generally, very good. Prices are reasonable. Not a bad place to be. Have a look at the rest of the (!) pubs in Bridgford and you will see what i mean.

In one sense though the Stratford Haven is a sad reminder that the `pub` has had it`s hayday. This bar has the potential to be very good, but in all probability it is the best it will ever be. Compared to the remainder of the `pubs` (hah!!) in Bridgford it is indeed a Haven. But, if this is the very best we can expect... well... i think that to be a sad reflection.

Yes, i know, be grateful for what is there and be thankfull.

Look on the bright side - no doorman (sorry duck, wrong footwear), no musak, no video jukebox, kareoke, gold chains, shell suits, `sizzling steaks`, the smell of weed in the toilets.... hmmmmm

great pub, with great beer and friendly drinkers. Gets a bit crowded, but worth it!
BoozeBear - 6 Oct 2006 23:36
Agree with previous comments - great range of ales and the prices are reasonable also. There is a TV in the front room - no Sky sports

My visit in May 2005 was one mid-week dinnertime, and as such, the pub may not as been at its best.
despite that howver, the beer was great (batemans), the selection was fantastic and the food was very nice.
top ub, worth a visit when a more full house would no doubt lend it more atmosphere.
well done tynemill

The best pub in West Bridgford by a massive margin. Great beers, and selection of drinks in general. Very good quality and range of food, reasonably friendly and efficient staff. Beer garden could be a bit smarter. Overall, the Stratford is an excellent pub.

Home to the West Bridgford Gun Dog Association (Stratford Haven Chapter). One of the true, proper pubs in Nottingham - Lets Dogs in for a start. The major moan is that all the bar staff are students. This Pub needs an older , more experienced bar staff to help serve the excellent Ales. Great range of Bitters. Could tidy the Beer Garden Up once in a while and get rid of the Fag Ends. Feels like a home from home

I agree with Mr De Sade, A great pub with a good range of ales and good food. It is very popular so can get very busy. Staff are occasionally surly as mentioned before, (also occasionally cute)!

Great Pub, although I do agree about it getting busy. Good choice of real ales + pub nosh, am a big fan of Tynemill. No TV no Bandits GREAT. Disagree with previous comment about staff, generally they are quite cute! (Am I allowed to say that?)

A great pub, excellent guest ales - especially at christmas, good food, good atmosphere, no tvs!

negative
it's so good it gets very busy, the beer garden is tiny, staff have been known to be a little surly but are generally ok

This is a welcome provider of 8 to 10 cask ales (in the middle of what is almost a real ale desert). This was formerly a pet shop and now there are probably more varieties of beer than there ever were dog worming tablets!!

It does get very busy most days but the quality is worth waiting for.

Very handy for Tests at Trent Bridge and Footie at the City Ground
