Old fashioned local style pub with front and back room reminiscent of public bar and lounge of old. The Acorn Barnsley Bitter went down nicely. Close to bus and rail stations and shopping centre.

Great locals place in contrast to the Tut'n'Shive next door. Only 3 ales on and dissappointingly only one remotely local in Barnsley Bitter. But they did have Bitter and Twisted on which pleased the Boss. Heritage wise a must to visit for the stainglazed windows and other period pieces.

Always a good experience, a proper pub with good, well-priced ales, friendly service and a good crowd of regulars. The Barnsley bitter and Black Sheep were in good condition, although some of our group found it a bit cold for their liking. For some reason, there were a bunch of Cockneys there last Saturday sining loudy and drinking a mixture of port and blue WKD at half past 11 in the morning, but they soon staggered off bellowing down the road and we did not see them again. I hope this pub remains relatively unchanged, as it has in the years I have been visiting.

My 2nd visit since October when i first reviewed this pub, and i must say it's even better 2nd time around.

An excellent real pub with real people, friendly locals and good bar staff.

I will return.

After the long walk from the Tut'n'Shive we finally arrived at The Plough which is a superb little town boozer which,as has been said before,is something of a time warp. Great atmosphere with two busy rooms full of locals and shoppers and racing on the telly (footie results followed). Barnsley Bitter;Golden Sheep and John Willie Lees Bitter on the pumps and all excellent. Very friendly with efficient staff who seem to know everyone who comes in!! A proper pub and not too far from the station (if you cna dodge the busy dual-carriageway!!) Highly recommended.
